Yeah I’m starting to think that too but Reid may push for it!

Let's be real... 8-10 inches has closed school for a week before. I don't see anything happening until AT LEAST Thursday.

Does anyone know why the plowing seems so inconsistent? I live in the western part of the county. The major road near us has obviously been plowed, and so has the secondary road that intersects it. Our own street, which is a dead end, has also been plowed multiple times. My guess is due to proximity to the secondary road? I took a walk earlier and many of our neighborhood roads have been plowed but some have not. But it seems more random than systematic. Based
On some posts here it sounds like some roads quite close to main roads and haven’t seen a plow at all. There just doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason.

We saw a plow make a single pass this morning. It didn’t do a very good job. I don’t know why they only make one pass leaving a single lane 12’ out from the curb but that happens during every storm.

For emergency services.

That’s why they only do one pass?

Yes, they are trying to maximize the number of streets that can be driven down, carefully. So they do one pass, one side.

I tried to go for a walk and it’s all ice. No way kids can walk to the bus stop safely this week.

My uncle used to run a snowplow before he retired about 10 years ago. He’d commonly plow the streets of people he knew and friends prior to others.

After the recent snow this has been changed and they have been told to stay home

I’m a bus driver and didn’t receive any call or email after the last one (5:47 pm) telling us to report tomorrow to clean the bus.

Where did you hear that?

FCPS announced they are closed Tuesday.

The texts came at 3:07 PM.

They didn’t. Busses are being cleared tomorrow. The snow is done.

It will be below 32 all week.

I think kids will be back Thursday.

I Vote not this week. And yes, I work, but this is bad where we are and frankly anything school after Wed will count as a day but no work will be done. Just call it for this week and start next.

I’m in Loudoun and we and every single other country in northern VA are closed again, including DC. In no world was the Herndon poster with magically no snow or ice on her one street going to school today even if FCPS were separated into different districts. EVERYONE is closed!

Some streets fall under county jurisdiction and some under town or city. Some are within a neighborhood / community’s plowing contract. Main roads are prioritized, side roads are harder to get to. I live in a neighborhood that straddles the county line so half the neighborhood is considered the county, and half is the town. The plowing is different in the two halves of the neighborhood because of this. Different entities have different responsibilities over their jurisdiction.

They were not. And custodians don’t plow parking lots anyway.

Custodians have been called in to report on Tuesday morning.

And yes, custodians do not plow parking lots. That’s contracted out.

Curious if there are staffing / labor issues (shortages) related to snow clearing.

They’ve always contracted this out.

My question still stands. Doesn’t matter if it is FCPS contractors. Is there a shortage because my neighborhood still hasn’t been plowed including mine with a school on it. It is highly unusual and we’ve been here 20+ years.

Agreed. We are untouched and a pretty urban community. I’m sure those further out will take some time to dig out tomorrow and Wednesday. Def won’t be ready for kids/buses

WTF? No, school will be open on Wednesday. All the main roads are clear now, the neighborhood roads will be cleared tomorrow.

My money is on a two-hr delay for Wednesday.

Nah closed on Wednesday, will also close on Thursday so kids can watch coverage of Carter’s funeral.

The county already said we aren’t closed Thursday.

Fcps won't be closed for the funeral Thursday

Fcps will be closed on Thursday because of "ice" in Clifton and Herndon, as a pretense for giving a day off for the funeral

I live in Herndon, there is no ice, our neighborhood roads have been plowed.

I think it's really unfair that we have to stay home because people choose to live in but*ck nowhere. We really need to separate the county into separate zones.

I also love in Herndon and my neighborhood has not been plowed yet.
