USC and Columbia Protests

The images of riot gear clad state troopers on horseback sent against college students is pretty incredible.

For pro-Israel folks, do you support such action against peaceful protesters? Is there any documentation that these protesters in Austin were not peaceful?

Yes they are all Hamas. It is antisemitic to question Israel and not support it. There are a lot of question about Abbott not giving orders to shoot and kill.

UT is a taxpayer funded university whose primary purpose is for dedicated students to attend classes, study, and learn, unimpeded & without threat of personal physical harm. ON CAMPUS everything else is lower priority.
When a protest prevents this primary function that students/parents/taxpayers are PAYING for, it is no longer a peaceful lawful protest.

Are you for real, or are you trolling?

From what I understand, the students at Austin haven't really done anything except walk out and congregate on campus. This is unreal.

I guarantee you those protestors arrested today will not be released from jail (like they were in New York).

They will think twice before they protest again.

You lack understanding.

Presence of riot gear is not a problem. Maybe it will tell the protestors that they should reconsider doing something illegal. Yeah you can try civil disobedience or your pretense of it but it doesn't have to be allowed, especially when civil disobedience is a pretext for agitation. Protesters relish opportunity for conflict and when it happens claim oppression. Oh wait they are modeling what Palestinians do in the Middle East...start trouble, then cry victim. Abbott knows this is not going to fall into the trap.

Would you say the same about protesters who sat in diners in the south to protest segregation? Those were private businesses and the protesters interrupted people's lunch, the primary purpose of those lunch counters. I guess they deserved having water cannons sprayed at them???

Seriously, this is a path that we should not be going down.

It’s time authorities get serious and start adding open supporters of Hamas to terrorist watch lists.

Society won’t stop devolving until people experience repercussions for their actions.

Remember those massive lines at UT, Michigan, and so many college campuses of young voters in 2020. I'm afraid the Dems will be in for a rude awakening with this blasé attitude.

Intercom system at @UTAustin campus now ordering protestors to disperse. Students also just got an email from the university telling them if they do not leave, they will get arrested.

Texas DPS will not make threats and then not follow through.

Texas is not taking the Ivy League approach.
Round them up!

The pictures of pro Hamas protests at state universities show very small crowds relative to the university sizes. I doubt most students are voting based on Gaza. This is the height of delusion.

Mu local regional state university is quite sizable and there has been nary a hint of protest because it's just normal students getting on with their education. The Ivy protesters are very out of touch.

Who gets to decide whether someone supports Palestinians, Hamas, or both? Plenty of posters here refuse to believe it when other posters emphatically state that they are not supportive of Hamas, so whose rules are we playing by in your game of 2024 McCarthyism? In fact, I’ve not seen a single person here state they support Hamas (or otherwise state anything suggestive to me that they support Hamas), yet I repeatedly see pro-Israel posters conflating support for Palestinians with support for Hamas.

Maybe someone without an obvious conflict of interest should make the call?

I think they should be worried. It's not just " kids protesting" it's fully grown adults.too.

It's not just this issue people are frustrated with.

Really shouldn't depend on Trump being the opponent.
