| I have heard from a number of friends that they've been having "porch parties" during the Stay Home orders. They're staying 6' away from their friends and neighbors and bringing their own glasses to drink. This sounds like lots of fun, but if I did this, it seems I'd lose all my moral and parental authority to tell my teens they can't have their friends come over to hang out and stay 6' apart. Thoughts? It seems to go against the main point of the rule. Or am I taking the social distancing thing too literally? |
| Do you trust your teens and their friends to stay six feet apart? Not touch each other's phones? What about using the bathroom? |
| That's better than the teens in my neighborhood, who are hanging out with friends and acting like nothing is amiss and are definitely not six feet apart! |
| I have two 19 year olds and 16 year old. They’re home and aren’t going anywhere. |
| Nope. |
|
No just no. Take a good look at every doctor and nurse, paramedic, police officer and firefighter you know and ask yourself if this is worth putting their lives at risk. They don't have enough protective equipment.
Any of your friends who are doing these 'porch parties' are selfish a-holes. |
| I am still going to work. My kid knows she can’t go anywhere and no one can come here. |

This is a great explanation.
Stay in your bubbles! Don't share a bubble with your neighbor! https://thespinoff.co.nz/politics/26-03-2020/siouxsie-wiles-toby-morris-youre-waking-up-in-lockdown-nz-heres-how-it-works/?fbclid=IwAR2jX_4D4bqhPX4O93mlbTqRVYQFTrkSrnihC-sSv4_oOzNXjiNtaw3nasY |
| Exercise self-control, OP. |
| Such weak moral character. Stay the f home!!!! |
Yeah. I've been shocked by some of the people I know who don't seem to care if their kids have friends over during the day. It really changes the way I very them. |
You’ve got good kids there. I have an 18 year old who will not stay home. Nothing I can really do about it. But I’m not hosting or encouraging anything. |
| We tried to social distance with my parents at a park yesterday using folder chairs. 6 people. It worked really well until we were walking to the car. While I think walking on the sidewalk not facing each other is pretty safe..but it is harder than you think..even for adults. |
I will also add 3 small kids (8?) ran right up to our group when we were getting settled aiming for basketball courts (which were of course closed). We tried to kindly shoo them back to their parents. I hope parents remind their kids about distancing before getting to the park. |

While I haven't done this, bc we don't really know our neighbors in our new area, I've seen a few of them in driveways in lawn chairs sitting about 10 feet apart in a circle, maybe 6 of them. I assume for the bathroom they either walk home or go behind a tree (it's dark and these are suburbs)
I actually felt kind of jealous that I don't have that option. No kids were outside. IAM guessing by their ages that kids are all teens anyway |
