Did anyone get accepted to this preschool?
If so, which year? If not, were you waitlisted? |
To clarify: National Child Research Center. |
Yes, 3 year old was accepted. |
Of course kids get in. The Pm sessions are pretty easy to get into. Now that there’s free public preK in DC, Ncrc is always looking for students willing to pay its tuition. |
Did your child go there? How do you know this? |
Congrats to the above poster who got accepted.
We were waitlisted for a 3 year old. Didn’t really expect to get in as they certainly had a lot of applicants. Or it seemed that way at the play dates. Would love to know how many open spaces they had for 3 year olds and if the waitlist moves. We have other options anyway so we’re fine. However a friend of ours (the only other person we know who applied) claims they got flat out rejected. That seems a little harsh to me. I thought everyone got put on the waitlist! Would love to know what the acceptance criteria really is, how many got accepted, waitlisted and rejected. |
Welcome to the reality of private school life in DC |
Totally! I know other schools do that and I will fully expect that for the future. I had previously read the theory that everyone gets waitlisted at NCRC. I’ve seen it suggested a few times on older threads on this forum. I thought they did it to let 3 year olds (ok, their parents) down gently. That’s why I was surprised they got a flat out rejection. But yes, that’s the reality for sure. |
I wonder how long the waitlists are for the 2 and 3 year olds. |
Last year, our 2 year old was waitlisted and accepted to the PM program about a week later. We declined and asked to be removed from WL — just wanted to have “school” stuff settled and weren’t interested in an afternoon program. |
My DC went there and got off the waitlist for a PM slot several years ago. A lot has changed there in the last few years, but yes PM slots are usually easier to get because so many want AM.
The acceptance criteria depends on a lot of factors - how many siblings or other legacies are applying that year, how many are male vs. female (they like to keep the classes balanced as much as possible), how many people need FA and how much vs. how many are full pay, etc. The year we got in off the waitlist they were short of boys and the class was uneven. But then the next year it was flipped. It really depends year to year. If you are interested in staying on the waitlist and willing to take PM, I would let them know that sooner rather than later. |
Had you only applied for the morning program originally? |
There are some old threads on this, but any views on the PM program and how kids handle it? |
My children attended a PM program at a different preschool and there were no issues for them, HOWEVER, they both started preschool at age 3 and had dropped their naps by then. |
I think PM class would be hard for a 2 year old. It is early to force them to drop a nap. |
