DH and I had talked about starting to try for baby number 2 this month, but I’m nervous about possible impacts of a coronavirus outbreak on healthcare. I’m also concerned that pregnancy could make me more vulnerable to the virus and limit treatment options. Is anyone else putting TTC on hold for now? |
I would not for this virus, no. If you are worried about the impact on healthcare I might wait and try to conceive in July or August so that you'll deliver after the worst of cold/flu season in 2021.
The reason I wouldn't be concerned about vulnerability and treatment options is that if you're TTC you're unlikely to be in the age brackets that are getting the severe cases in the first place. |
No way. If you're healthy and young enough to have a baby, you're not in the highest risk group for coronavirus. |
I absolutely would wait. They have no idea what the effect is to the fetus. |
Yes, and the CDC website indicates that although we don’t know yet about this virus, risk of miscarriage and stillbirth were increased by other similar viruses. |
And a few years ago it was zika concerns. We live in an age of pandemics. It's unfortunate but even if you wait out this one there could be another one by the time you're pregnant. Or the next one could hit babies and young children hard. |
No. |
I read that the pregnant women in Wuhan and the babies were ok. Could be a good time to try, esp if you are quarantined together. |
But those are babies who were exposed in the third trimester. There is no information about babies exposed in the first two trimesters and that is generally when there are larger effects. |
I think if you are young then yes, wait a bit. |
No way. |
Unless you’re younger than 30, I wouldn’t wait. If it isn’t one thing, it’s another. Next year there might be another Zika. |
are people seriously delaying having a kid? That’s insane.
We didn’t delay and now I’m 7 weeks. No regrets. |
What info did you have at the time? Because counting back, it wasn’t much. |
This will probably last a year - are you comfortable with that delay? |
