I also want Ukraine to win, but I feel uncomfortable with the democracy framing ever since Zelenskyy canceled the election and simply retained power. And don't tell me war time is different; the US had an election during the civil war!

Russia already lost. They failed to take the capital of their next door neighbor and had their economy/military decimated in the process.

Decimated means lost 10%.
Ukraine has lost about that much of its land area. Russia probably considers it a reasonable trade if they get a land connection to Crimea.

I'm not sure the meaning of democracy becomes its antonym just because war is now a high-tech affair. You can say it's good that Zelenskyy canceled the elections, but seems hard to say it's democratic and muttering something about drones is the lamest of excuses.
