Ukrainian victory over Russia is inevitable

Or Czechoslovakia in 68. Or Poland in 1980. But that was a very different time. All those countries were part of the Soviet Bloc during the height of the Cold War when WWIII and nuclear annihilation was very much a concern.

It’s been a very different era since 1991. The Hungarians, Czechs, Slovaks, and Poles are all part of NATO and the EU. And Ukraine has been independent for more than 30 years now.

But Trump seems to want to go back to that era when there were “zones of influence.” The US gets the Americas. Russia gets Europe. And China gets Asia. Trump has a very feudal view of the world. And his “peace plan” reflects that medieval mindset.

It's silly to ignore the fact that regional powers exist.

No. Because just a few montha before that the UK, France and Israel had conspired to invade Egypt to try and take over the Suez Canal.

There is no way around it. The alternative is one single zone of influence controlled by the US.
Russia and China are too strong to allow that to occur.

"Ukraine agrees to ‘core terms’ of peace deal"

https://thehill.com/policy/defense/5621491-ukraine-peace-proposal-trump-geneva/

The deal includes surrender of the 4 provinces annexed by Russia in 2022 and where all the fighting has been.

So in the end ... a million dead sons, brothers, and fathers ... all for nothing. So tragic.

This peace deal could have been reached on Day 1 without all of those lives being destroyed.

Maybe Russia shouldn't have invaded them.

That's the new proposal not the Russian one presented last week.

Russia gains territory.. apparently including full provinces that they only partially captured? Apart from a ceasefire what does Ukraine gain from it?

We're letting the bully keep the lunch money he took.

And what now? We all pat each other on the back over Ukraine while Putin turns around to start annexing Georgia or some other place?

Like it matters if Russia annexes some place called "Georgia" that no American can find on a map and that was part of Russia in 1801 and subsequently part of the USSR until 1991?

But if that happens, maybe we can try just staying out of it and not getting another million people killed trying to resist something that ends up happening anyway?

I don't know ... maybe we can attend to the myriad problems we need to deal with here at home instead of going abroad in search of monsters to destroy.

Trump's plan was Russia's plan. A total disaster. But Rubio flew over to Geneva to hammer out a more sustainable plan with Ukrainians and Europeans. Zelensky seems to find this adapted plan acceptable.

Which means Putin and the Russians won't. They'll reject it.

So no change in the end.

This is the most Mickey Mouse administration in history. The incompetence is endless.

Related, it sounds like Dugin is working on long-term plans to reabsorb all or most of Ukraine, physically and culturally. So good luck with only losing those 4 provinces.

An insight into what "hurting" Russia actually entails: https://www.reuters.com/investigations/band-brothers-how-war-crushed-cohort-young-ukrainians-2025-12-01

Its almost 2026 and some people still think Zelensky is saving Ukraine.
