| Do red flashing school bus lights apply to cyclists? In traffic on MacArthur I just saw a speeding cyclist pass a school bus on the left while it was loading kids. An accident would have been as devastating as with a car for the kid. One more reason to hate them. |
| Yes. When riding on the road, bicyles are vehicles. |
| As a cyclist I just assume they apply to me and stop for them. |
| Yes, the flashing red and the sign extended is a STOP sign. Same as a red light. |
| Probably you were in the MD part of Macarthur since DC doesn't use many school buses (only special ed). All MCPS buses have cameras, but I guess they can't really ticket the cyclist due to lack of a license plate. |
| To some cyclists, no rules apply. I almost hit one flying through a parking lot yesterday. |
Do you also hate drivers because some drive drunk, distracted, speeding, etc.? You could have asked the reasonable question without showing the world that you’re a nut. |
Bikes don’t follow these rules though. |
No, it wouldn't have been. But yes, when I'm on a bike, I stop for stopped school buses, just as I do when I'm driving. |
I think OP needs a better understanding of physics and bodily injury. |
| Yes, and the other traffic laws too. |
DP. To clarify - the traffic laws that apply to bicyclists, apply to bicyclists. Not all traffic laws that apply to drivers apply to bicyclists, just as not all traffic laws that apply to bicyclists apply to drivers. |
Most other traffic laws. There are some things that apply to bicyclists and not car drivers, and vice versa. If you’re going to drive in an area you sold probably familiarize yourself with the differences. |
People are killed by bicyclists every year and a child hit by a cyclist has a good chance of being severely injured. |
