| Daughter loves the school and is hoping to play lacrosse there. Any insights? |
| She will most likely be rejected. Have a Plan B. |
| It's need aware so if you're full pay, that'll give an advantage. |
You are a jerk. |
| My kid applied as well. I think she gets in because Naviance looks good. Full pay hook looking good in Naviance there. |
| My daughter has a friend there. We toured it, but did. To apply. Beautiful campus, but farthest college from airport and not a lot to do. Cold and snowy AF for about 5 months. Small friendly, slightly entitled vibe. Very white. Only minorities are some athletic pull. Lots of weed, but a lot of good options post college if you go for the right degree and get a lot of pull and internships. Lots of richies who weren’t good enough to get into the other Maine colleges, but parents didn’t want UVM. |
Pro tip: When you see a sentence like this, immediately discard everything else the person says, because their intent is bad and they are damaged. |
| We toured with both DC but neither ended up applying. Thought it was a lovely campus and they’re building a massive new athletics complex. Students seemEd happy and relaxed. The town was a dump and the college is obviously a bit isolated but many good LACs are. |
| It’s good because if she loves the idea of playing lacrosse at Colby there are a lot of comparable schools so make a robust list because they’re small and getting in can be a crapshoot. |
| Waterville is awful, I agree. Hiking and skiing are the main things to do off campus. But a great school academically. |

Academically good school.
Extremely poor counseling department. If your child has depression or an anxiety issues, consider somewhere else. Nothing to do, lot's of weed, like previous poster said. Not diverse at all. |
Lousy towns are always “up-and-coming”, but there’s a lot of good happening in Waterville. Dorm on Main Street, several new businesses, and a new hotel under construction are all excellent signs. Athletic center will also draw more people to town (the only Olympic-sized pool in Maine, for instance). It’s a tiny little town and won’t ever be more than that but it’s already much improved over just a few years ago. |
| Is it need aware? I'm surprised because they seem to have a strong endowment. Other similar schools are need blind. |
| It is a feeder school for a few NE school privates. BB&N in Cambridge has a lot of students who have matriculates to Colby. |
Kids in college mostly want to hang out with other kids in college. YOU would like more things to do (and so would I), but only a small minority of college kids really care. I have two in big ten schools in larger towns and they and their friend go into town very occasionally (and then often to go into bars), but mostly they party with other kids on or near campus. At a 10% acceptance rate it’s pretty clear the isolation at Colby isn’t problematic for most kids. |
