Yes, the white house should have addressed this issue -- "the first lady is having some non-urgent medical procedures and wishes to keep her health care private. She is fine and will resume public duties on X date."

When they leave a strange situation out there, it is bound to leave people to fill in the blanks. I'm going with a hysterectomy (and she is using it to keep her distance from the idiot).

She's living in the White House, with a security detail and a staff of federal employees, and is expected to at least appear at public ceremonial events, such as the Memorial Day visit to Arlington cemetery, and to formal events with international leaders, such as the upcoming G7 event, so if she is hiding out for a month and doing none of that then her absence should be explained.

The complications or however they could have worded it line would have been better than what has been going on. I would have accepted it because shit like that happens. And it wouldn't have led to the crazy amount of speculation - maybe some fringe (like the anti-obama crazies used to do), but not what we are seeing right now.

And again, while I don't really like Melania all that much, I do not wish ill on her. She has a child the same age as mine. I am a mother and my biggest fear is some health issues taking me away from my child who needs me. So, yeah, I am concerned for her as a fellow mom. I hope it isn't any of the horrible things that have been speculated. But, again, at this point, botched plastic surgery seems rather unlikely and the worse case scenarios seem more likely.
