Russians Compromising Trump

Dropping off the grid renders Steele much more vulnerable to an actual threat to his safety from the Russians. Whereas staying very noticeable and public, "hiding in plain sight," so to speak, would provide him with much more protection. If Putin had him assassinated now, no one would know. Because he's gone already.

It's like if you think someone is following you to do you harm, you don't go into a dark deserted alley, you try to find some place with lots of light and lots of people.

So, no, no legitimate intelligence operate or ex operative practicing "tradecraft" would choose this moment to disappear if his concern was his personal safety. He would do the opposite: be as public and noticeable as possible. He would go on the news media shows and very publicly give interviews stating that he fears for his safety and if anything happens to him, Putin was the one who ordered the hit. Even if it looks like an accident (brakes failed or something).

On the other hand, financial scammers and con artists are the types who pull these kind of disappearing acts, and they do it all the time.

Steele was very useful to the intelligence agencies and media outlets who are now claiming he was a "reliable source" because he provided them all with easy plausible deniability. Steele could just sit down at his word processor and make up any old shit. If he had a bit of a conscience he might call one of his old cronies back in Russia and say "Hey man I need a source for some shit I am going to make up for a client. So I need you to make up some thing lurid about Trump. When I get paid I will give you 10%."

Or maybe Steele didn't even do that with this Trump nonsense. Maybe he just completely made the whole thing up. Wouldn't have been a problem except Trump got elected and somehow the thing got leaked to the point where it blew up on Steele. He can't back up anything, he knows how litigious Trump is, and he needs to hide to avoid the process servers that he knows are coming his way.

Also he probably committed any number of federal crimes in fabricating this stuff--mail fraud, wire fraud, and I'm sure there's a few other felonies in there too.

So that's why he vanished. Just like every other scammer who's about to be exposed as a scammer.

This is the highest quality comment on this thread in quite a few pages. High quality isn't the same as correct, but I think all the armchair quarterbacks should read and re-read this a few times, to understand that these ideas are among the better informed and better thought out here. None of this is a sure thing, but definitely keep the above in mind.

A few further thoughts. Troublesome U.S. politicos show up dead in things like small plane crashes in remote areas, not getting shot on Capitol Hill. One of 20th C America's most reviled men, a man complicit in the deaths of many thousands, for decades walked the streets of downtown DC daily, his distinctive gait visible from at least a block away! He was always doing the opposite of hiding, he was surrounding himself with witnesses and potential collateral damage.

LMAO, as if any of us thinking people take Trumpkins increasing desperate attempts to defend the Cheeto seriously

The IC disagrees with your assessments. And the evidence concerning Trump.'s financial ties to Russia and staff with continuing relationships with the Russian government continues dates back to the summer and is quite consistent.

By all means, continue to spin. But you aren't convincing anyone other than the diehard Trumpkins. And don't hesitate to call me a desperate lib, I'm enjoying watching you project. So much like Trump himself, whatever he attributes to the dems is what he is actually doing

I wrote the praise for the long piece on spy "tradecraft" and hiding vs getting out in public. Why on earth do you think I'm a 'Trumpkin'? Do you get that I and the poster I was praising are just talking about some of the more likely ways messing with big fish/states play out?

Accusing everyone with a different take on this Russia/Trump stuff of being a "Trumpkin" sounds an awful lot like the invective thrown at Obama about this country of his birth or his status as a "secret Muslim", WTF that is. Chill. Listen. Offer your opinion. But please, spare us your need to attribute bad motives to people offering a slightly different narrative.

The golden showers rumors will just taint Trump forever.

It's funny that the left cares about sexual kinks at all. Who cares? I don't.

But the only thing about this that is interesting is finding out who leaked the memo from the intelligence report to the media.

No. The interesting thing is the prospect of Russian leverage. Not pee kinks. Not who released it.

This. But if true, the sexual kinks are also an FU to the religious right.

You really cannot believe anything that comes out of Trump's mouth or any of his Administration. They are all liars. They just want the news organizations to provide PR services. Trump clearly is compromised or else he would release his taxes and stop attacking people.

Oh I'm gonna love those for the schadenfreude of it

But it's the all other stuff they've got on him that really matters and we do well to not forget that.

I know that

You know that

It's fact

But his base is practically too stupid to function

So they'll believe his lies

The only thing they care about is public money for their schools and the death of abortion rights.

Someone in Hollywood is already selling a "fictional" script for a movie about the intrigue.
The spy who wrote memo is nicknamed James Bond. The movie will be not Goldfinger but Golden-short-finger

I'm sure that you are better informed about such matter than a former MI6 agent. But, one of the cases that Steele investigated was the assassination of Alexander Litvinenko. Litvinenko was "hiding in plain sight" and attempts to poison him were made in public bars and restaurants. It is likely that the successful poisoning occurred in a public place. So, one might say that Steele's experience belies your claims.
