What happened to Patriot HS? They used to be a pretty good program. |
| Gainesville opened. |
Yup Gainesville HS took about 50% of the talent going to patriot, which just made battlefield stronger (Less competition) |
So it's less "this sucks, that's the best" and perhaps more "In the DMV the privates are better than publics, in Florida the publics are better than privates"? Or in Florida it is more even for now? |

As someone who regularly watches Florida HS lacrosse this is a very funny post. All in all the level of competition is very similar between the states from year to year. 5-6 teams are really good and can hold there own with anyone nationally. Florida has been better here if you don't account for all the kids playing at DC and MD privates 20-30 competent teams. Then a lot of really bad.
Florida does not have the recruiting restrictions that Virginia has leading to a few very top heavy publics schools. Like VA the game is hardly statewide. Orlando, Jacksonville, and Naples all have 1-2 very good public schools that all the athletes go to and everyone else is bad. |
| good luck to the Oakton Fab 5 on their 1st day of JV tryouts! Their future is bright! |
Curious to see if Gainesville continues to rise or do they plateau. Last year they beat Freedom-SR in Regional Playoffs and made it to the State Playoffs before Losing to Cosby 6-10. They do play a solid Offseason with schedule in Madison and Woodson. I hope to see the 'Cards back in the State playoffs but not betting on it. I would give them the nod for 2nd Best Team in PWC for what it's worth. |
I heard they've already been asked to tryout for Varsity JUST by looking at their physicals. |
I heard they were each asked to coach a D1 men's and women's lacrosse team, plus 5 other D3 teams. |
| I was watching Oakton's practice, and I saw the fab 5 starting on offense and they were destroying the defense. |
| okay, i'll bite. what's all this about oakton's fab 5? |
Some contingent of Oakton lacrosse people (the ill-named "Oakton Fab 5" themselves, parents, varsity guys, or whoever) have been touting how great they are. There was discussion about if they would make varsity, if they are just JV guys, etc. Seems like the jokesters are back talking about it. It's not even really mildly entertaining. |

Why does all FCPS, but seemingly especially for lacrosse, sports schedules and websites etc have bad info?
School athletic sites don't always have schedules, and even if they do they are not accurate. Rosters are not accurate for prior seasons. You don't even see prior year results. To see rosters or schedules you have to go to a *different* website, possibly just for your District, to see schedules and rosters. But then you have to go to MaxPreps, or LaxNumbers or even another site to find scores from prior years. But not all schools have an active LaxNumbers profile so those schedules aren't showing. And MaxPreps can also be horrifically out of date. Or just have the wrong school listed as an opponent because the name is similar. |
Oakton has 5 freshman who all play on the same VLC club team. And allegedly their coaching staff's plan is to keep all 5 on JV their freshman year to "develop" them, rather than having them up on varsity. Many think this will cause their family's to pull them and put them into privates after this year. Oakton thinks in 2028 and 2029 they will be heavy favorites to win it all if those 5 stay |
| Because AD's are little more than gym teachers and school admin is essentially public welfare. |
