What happened to the superdelegates? |
What are you talking about? The debate? It barely had any moderation at all. CNN merely asked the questions and kept time. When Trump repeatedly refused to answer questions and instead went off on tangents about totally unrelated things, they didn't stop him and redirect him to answer the question. They didn't do followups either. When Trump launched into gish gallops of hyperbolic lies they didn't do anything - even a high school debate doesn't allow that. The CNN team was a joke of a debate and wasn't even remotely hostile or anti-Trump. I've seen high school debates that were better run. Jake Tapper should be embarrassed. |
Not sure what format you saw, but I have judged high school debate, and the judge isn't supposed to interrupt the students. The CNN moderators did ask Trump followups, pointing out he didn't answer the question. They also gave Biden chances to respond to Trump's attacks that they didn't give Trump. Crucially they tried to protect Biden and cover his dementia. They cut him off after 'We beat Medicare.' Ironically if they had to do it over again they would have let Biden keep going, but they didn't have their marching orders yet. |
Biden got everything he wanted: no audience, no press in the room, and a mute button. You’ve posted the same nonsense before, again: debate moderators don’t have time to live fact check in a debate. This is your real problem with the debate: CNN wasn’t remotely hostile or antiTrump. |
Don't feel hopeless. Watch these older women in Kalamazoo, MI. CNN keeps trying to goad them into criticizing Biden and they are not taking the bait.
https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/11/politics/video/joe-biden-press-conference-voter-reaction-tuchman-ac360-digvid Normal people know that the DC-NYC talking heads are feeding a narrative right now. Axelrod - the guy criticizing Biden from his vacation home with his dumb dog barking in the background - is pretending like he knows what actual voters are thinking. The guy lives in a gilded bubble. Same with the rest of the clowns who answer to their donors in HCOL blue districts. It's funny - the Democratic politicians on TV defending Biden are those who live in poor and working-class districts (House reps) or more blue-collar states (Senators). |
Well I hope you’re right. Democrats who are nervous are being realistic about the electoral college loss in 2016 and the narrow win in 2020 (which should never have been that close). |
Trump enacted more gun control than Biden. And, aren’t you in favor of every private citizen in the US turning their guns over to the Trump administration, so that only the police and Trump’s military has all the guns? |
Fake news at every turn from Trump supporters. Will post crazy stuff with no receipts. Then will blatantly ignore the receipts that people post to show the opposite, or show GOP blocking efforts. |
People don’t like change, particularly fast or sudden change. Many of the signature progressive agenda items, like DEI, has p*ssed off people of most persuasions. When you sit through these sessions, you’re essentially indicted if anything other than a black person, and good luck if you’re qualified or even overqualified for a job but the wrong DEI skin color. This is the type of thing that turns 80% of the population against the Democrats.
While the Republicans float cultural issues too, most of them are status quo or traditional, do most people are fine with them or aren’t impacted by them. I’m not saying that the country shouldn’t “progress”, but leaders have to bring people along on these issues, not mandate changes, especially when these policies impact employment, college admission, etc. Also, there is a significant feeling that Democrats give away opportunities and wealth to some, while others have to work for the same. Say what you want, but many find that unfair. Example number one is student loan forgiveness. |
Here’s the problem. When people think about the Democrat’s signature items, they’re the following: DEI, free Palestine, unlimited illegal immigration, student loan forgiveness, higher taxes, and more regulation.
Now, these might have their good points, but for most people in the US, these are issues or perspectives that don’t help them. Much of the moderate Democratic vote more about keeping Trump out of office due to his autocratic and anti-NATO views than supporting Democratic policies. |
Gone after the Hillary/Bernie debacle. |
Don’t hope, act. Find a campaign or organization to volunteer with. You can make calls from anywhere in the country. There is zero excuse for not doing SOMETHING. Democracy is citizens participation. Voting is just one aspect. I can drop links if you or anyone else needs. |
It's never hopeless, but it depends on your outlook: I am resigned to Trump being President next year. Biden and his close circle of aides and relatives obviously don't get it, and after this shooting event, fewer people are pushing him to step aside. So it seems Democrats want to learn their lesson the hard way - with 4 more years of Trump. Perhaps they're spend it mulling over all their mistakes, and come back stronger in 2028. |
Another Trump administration will do untold damage to this country. If not just in policy, then in psychological and cultural damage. It's sad that Democratic leadership wants to sit back and wait for 2028. That is too late and we all know it. |
Democrats are crushing everything good about America. Why? |
