ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Define forever? Do you even know when the change happened?

Every study in the rod has pointed to the calendar year. Unless there’s substantial evidence and research that has changed that, trapped players aren’t a reason to change lol. Work harder!

Unclear on what "pointed to the calendar year" means as I don't believe calendar year has been a dependent variable in youth sports studies. Meaning RAE studies are not modeling the impact of chosen date cutoffs to define a cohort year and how this impacts RAE.

Cutoff dates don’t “impact” RAE. Cutoff dates define RAE.

Exactly, nothing sacred about calendar year or has been proven for CY to be better or worse than any other cutoff.

I think that would just make me think that they are the league for players who are not competitive enough or just don’t have high aspirations.

It’s crazy to me that parents would give their kids the idea that their birth month has anything to do with their development and their ability to be successful.

Then your not very smart.

Spoken like someone who makes excuses for everything.
They didn't make an excuse.

This whole thread is an excuse.

Ignoring all the other nonsense thrown out here, if you want to live in a reality that trapped players have no disadvantage then sure. The goal of ECNL is to get players seen by college coaches. This change would make that process easier. That's all that matters.

I don’t disagree that trapped players have no disadvantages but I think parents are turning it into a way bigger deal for their kids that necessary.

Of course….Says the parent without a trapped player who therefore have zero idea at all…

You assumed wrong. Life’s tough, get over it and teach your kids to as well.

Please. Stop gaslighting. It’s a problem that doesn’t need to exist. That said you want it to exist so your snowflake doesn’t have to compete with kids in their grade for college recruiting.

Get over it. Move on. Stop telling your kid ppl are snowflakes, and whatever negative assumptions you want them to have just because life is unfair.

That's a shitty mentality for sports and life. it's laughable. woe is me bc i was born in the "wrong" month.

Genetics dictate development on physical size. Hard work and dedication to getting better in the sport dictate development on the field. The month you are born has nothing to do with any of it.

That makes sense after 18 years old

Not when one kid is 12 and December birthday and his teammate turned 13 in January and is going through puberty already

Parents really telling their kids their hard work and dedication won’t matter bc of their birth month. Wow.
You read into it. Wasn't said what parents say to kids. Think of it like people in poverty telling their kids to work hard but knowing that based on their limited educational and work opportunities that success is less likely than those with advantages. Obstacles can be overcome but parents would prefer a level playing field or even an advantage.

So ur comparing/analogizing the disadvantages and struggles of a kid born into poverty and working to level those disadvantages, to the woes of a kid born in the wrong month and trying to “level” the playing field for those kids?

I guess that’s why there is this thread and forum. As an outlet for parents who’ll know they and their kids in real life would sound like entitled, spoiled brats investing energy into a truly first world, upper middle class “disadvantage”.

Love it when people claim the moral high ground on gaslighting….didnt realize gaslighting was reserved for addressing only third world problems.

I’ll tell you what’s weird — people whose kids are not impacted/trapped want to keep a problem that (if fixed) would not negatively impact their kids- only help other kids avoid a stupid problem created by NCAA and Youth soccer having conflicting age rules.

Kind of rude to leave out players born between Jan-Aug.

Most trapped players didn't have a team to play on this weekend. So there's that genius.

Should be settled by thanksgiving.

The age cutoff for USCS is not a bylaw issue. If you’re going to blow smoke, and spend the time to research the meeting dates in order to blow the smoke, at least know what the heck you’re talking about.

Hence the reason the PP sent the shout out to Sep-Dec kids playing in MLS Next
