I think that would just make me think that they are the league for players who are not competitive enough or just don’t have high aspirations.

It’s crazy to me that parents would give their kids the idea that their birth month has anything to do with their development and their ability to be successful.

Then your not very smart.

Spoken like someone who makes excuses for everything.
They didn't make an excuse.

This whole thread is an excuse.

Ignoring all the other nonsense thrown out here, if you want to live in a reality that trapped players have no disadvantage then sure. The goal of ECNL is to get players seen by college coaches. This change would make that process easier. That's all that matters.

I don’t disagree that trapped players have no disadvantages but I think parents are turning it into a way bigger deal for their kids that necessary.

Of course….Says the parent without a trapped player who therefore have zero idea at all…

You assumed wrong. Life’s tough, get over it and teach your kids to as well.

Please. Stop gaslighting. It’s a problem that doesn’t need to exist. That said you want it to exist so your snowflake doesn’t have to compete with kids in their grade for college recruiting.

Get over it. Move on. Stop telling your kid ppl are snowflakes, and whatever negative assumptions you want them to have just because life is unfair.

That's a shitty mentality for sports and life. it's laughable. woe is me bc i was born in the "wrong" month.

Genetics dictate development on physical size. Hard work and dedication to getting better in the sport dictate development on the field. The month you are born has nothing to do with any of it.
If this were true we shouldn't have any youth age categories or even youth soccer as they should play with adults. And if birth month didn't matter, the pushback excuses on why no change should happen wouldn't be here. But they are.

That makes sense after 18 years old

Not when one kid is 12 and December birthday and his teammate turned 13 in January and is going through puberty already

Parents really telling their kids their hard work and dedication won’t matter bc of their birth month. Wow.
You read into it. Wasn't said what parents say to kids. Think of it like people in poverty telling their kids to work hard but knowing that based on their limited educational and work opportunities that success is less likely than those with advantages. Obstacles can be overcome but parents would prefer a level playing field or even an advantage.

So ur comparing/analogizing the disadvantages and struggles of a kid born into poverty and working to level those disadvantages, to the woes of a kid born in the wrong month and trying to “level” the playing field for those kids?

I guess that’s why there is this thread and forum. As an outlet for parents who’ll know they and their kids in real life would sound like entitled, spoiled brats investing energy into a truly first world, upper middle class “disadvantage”.

I don’t think anyone is disputing the message or the existence of a disadvantage. Just how much energy or attention parents give it and what that demonstrates to these “disadvantaged” kids.

How did you get that from what the PP wrote?
Or do you have a comprehension or English problem?

So now I’m curious. What are you all telling your trapped kids about their “disadvantage”? How have they “coped” or how has it affected their soccer life? Do they quit? Work harder?

Nope, this is a DCUM thread, not an advice column for kids.

Nice! I’m gonna redshirt my October birthday kid so he turns 7 at the start of kindergarten and he can be a giant on all of his soccer teams.

Bunch of pages back, not clear if a change would be start date or grade level.

The two best kids on my DCs school team are just that. A full year older.

Puberty is the great equalizer. When your kid is 18 and those kids are 19, as seniors, it probably won’t make a difference at all. If anything, the 19 year olds who are used to being the star player because they had a beard and were 6 feet tall in 8th grade , tends to have trouble adjusting to being less of a soloist and more of an ensembleist as he gets into his later teen years.
