The claim seems to be that it was then used to ban a bunch of American users. Yet the list of users hasn't been made available to know whether or not they were Americans, or bots, or whatever. So we're supposed to just take Taibbi on his word?

pretty certain that the claim is that it was erroneously used to ban users who weren’t, actually, “Russian bots.” Taibbi’s got the receipts.

If Taibbi has the receipts, he isn't coherently or convincingly delivering them.

Sure he is. Obviously, he can’t release all the names yet, without permission.

Don't need names, just need twitter handles... which are PUBLIC.

I imagine he’ll release them in due course. I think another key point is that twitter, itself, in most cases, disagreed that accounts were “Russian bots” as alleged.

Meanwhile, there are *still* thousands of Russian bots proliferating on Twitter. Including ones pretending to be American conservative "patriots." Why isn't Taibbi addressing that?
And the fact that it's all still going on greatly, GREATLY undermines Taibbi's narrative.

You’re evidence for this is what? Gut instinct?

If you don't want to be swept up and labeled as a Russian bot, maybe do a little more research and be a little more mindful and discriminating of who and what you are retweeting. I can't remember how many times I've gotten on to twitter first thing in the morning at 6AM to find some hashtag attacking dems trending - to see that it all started at 2AM, 3AM in the morning with thousands of accounts all suddenly starting to tweet then to get in the trending list. Like, sure there are all of these politically minded Americans up and caffeinated and vigorously tweeting then? Nope, but the timing aligns perfectly with the morning in St. Petersburg and Moscow, where we know for a fact that FSB, Prigozhin and others have been operating entire office complexes full of multi-story buildings filled with social media trolls working off of scripts pumping this garbage out.

Stop amplifying Russian trolls if you don't want to be mistakenly identified as one.

You.just.don't.get.it.

And, I think you are trying to justify falling for the crap pulled by the creators of Hamilton 68. The accounts on this dashboard were not "mistaken" for Russian bots. They were intentionally targeted to be called "Russian bots." Totally falsely. They knew what they were doing and they knew liberals would willingly believe everything they said.

These are people in government and in the media that are pushing a totally false story in order to promote a narrative. If this isn't fascism........
And, some of the executives at Twitter who saw what was happening and didn't speak up are now serving in this administration.

If I were a member of the news media who was bamboozled by these frauds, I would be furious. They should never be believed again.

Is Clint Watts still a contributor for MSNBC????

WRONG. Russian bots are a VERY REAL phenomenon and are a HUGE problem.

Either you are COMPLETELY CLUELESS about what's been going on, and are thus COMPLETELY UNQUALIFIED to comment on it, or..

You are COMPLETELY FULL OF SHIT. WRONG WRONG WRONG. Don't even try to argue otherwise.

Oh sure, it's COMPLETE COINCIDENCE that 1500 Twitter accounts will all tweet the exact same thing about Nancy Pelosi, all exactly verbatim, all with the *exact* spelling, grammar, punctuation errors and everything else, all within the span of 15 minutes. TOTAL COINCIDENCE. No bots at all.

If he has the receipts, he needs to provide them. Not "in due course." "In due course" only tells me that he does not in fact have the receipts in hand.

Sure, keep on pretending we don't know about Агентство интернет-исследований, Главсеть, ольгинские тролли, это или как вы хотите назвать это

You insult everyone's intelligence.

+ And, they started doing it at 2AM in the morning when normal Americans were asleep, but34468 while morning was breaking in Moscow and St. Petersburg. And for some reason "ordinary American conservative" @PatriotGreg344571 with a selfie of a generic white dude with sunglasses in a pickup truck as his avatar and some kinda "2nd Amendment God Bless Donald Trump" blah blah in his profile also started retweeting it right at the same time. Seems perfectly ordinary and legitimate. Riiiiiight.

Why hasn't Matt Taibbi published any of the mountains of internal correspondence that Twitter received regarding very legitimate concerns about Russian trolls and bots, the Internet Research Agency's activities, the numerous independent reports and analyses that confirm and corroborate the presence of Russian and other bots proliferating on the platform?

Why hasn't he made even a single mention of any of that in this latest "twitter files" sham thread of his? Not one? Not even to provide context or relevance?

Twitter prior to Musk takeover did their due diligence and stated they definitely were not. Read Taibbe’s thread. You can see the emails going back and forth between Twitter exec Roth and others.

Taibbi just demolished the Hamilton 68 “dashboard.” There’s really no counterargument to his points.

It's awful curious how we went from Yoel Roth being this hateful liberal ideologue trying to ban conservatives right and left to now being some great defender of conservative accounts.

But this latest Taibbi thread started unraveling and making more sense for me on Tweet 12, which reveals they never actually got any lists or names or accounts from Hamilton68, and that twitter "reverse engineered" their own dashboard and their own lists based only on what they PRESUMED to be what Hamilton68 was looking at.

As usual, there are many huge holes in the yarn that Taibbi is spinning here.

And again, why isn't Taibbi showing any Twitter correspondence relative to known and proven Russian troll farms and accounts (Internet Research Agency etc)? Why isn't he talking about the phenomenon of retweet amplification, which does sweep up users who may themselves not be Russian trolls or bots, but who are going along with what the Russian trolls and bots are posting?

When are we going to see Taibbi report on how Elon Musk personally ordered Chad Loder to be banned from Twitter, after courting notorious far right activists Andy Ngo and Ian Miles Cheong (both with strong ties to far right Proud Boys and other violent far right domestic terrorists).

Chad Loder is a founder of a tech company and cybersecurity expert most known for tracking, video-recording and reporting on the activities of violent far right extremists like Patriot Prayer, Proud Boys, and others.

Ngo and Cheong smeared Loder with unsubstantiated claims of being a predatory pedophile.
