My husband and I are buying a condo now that we are expecting our first child. I wanted a 3 bed 2 bath 1770sqft. condo for $770,000, but my husband said they were overpriced and we could find the same size cheaper. I liked that it had an elevator and had the lowest HOA, but we crossed that off of the list. We found a condo that we like. It's a 3bed 2bath 1700 sqft.for $499,000, but it's in a second floor walk-up. Now he wants to buy a condo that in the same unit for $75,000 more because it has a rooftop deck. It's a 3 bed, 2 bath 1850 sqft. The issue for me is I find it unnecessary ( we live in the Midwest where it is cold 6 months out of the year), and it's it's a third floor walk-up. He thinks the extra money is worth it. We are both fit but the thought of walking up 3 flights of stairs with a young baby is not what I want to do. I was willing to compromise on the second floor walk-up with some stairs. Would you spend an extra $75,000 for a rooftop deck, or is it unnecessary? |
NO |
I think the roof top is super cool (probably worth $75,000), but I would not live in a building without elevator with small children. Think about the baby plus all the stuff you need RJ carry (strollers, diaper bags, car seats, shopping bags, etc.). |
lol no way |
Hand him a bag of groceries and a stroller. Put ear buds in his ears and play a recording of a baby crying. Make him go up three flights of stairs 10 times. Then ask him if he still wants to pay the extra money. |
No way, no how a rooftop deck is worth $75k. I can build a lot more than a rooftop deck for $75k. |
If I didn’t have kids, yes.
If you end up getting a c-section you won’t want extra stairs. If your kid climbs and jumps off things the way my DS does, you won’t want the rooftop deck hazard. (When we stay places with balconies we move all the balcony furniture inside so DS won’t use it to climb over the rail. Good luck in your search. |
OP here. I should try this. I know it's extra money but my first pick was in an elevator building with a private rooftop deck. I still think we should spend the extra money and have both of what we want. |
You will not be on the rooftop deck from whenever the kid starts walking until at least 5. Maybe later. |
You will likely keep the stroller in the car. |
Clearly you don’t live in a city. |
If I had an elevator I’d still take the stairs. |
Agree to give him a stroller and diaper bag and send him up the stairs. |
With a stroller? LOL |
OP here. Here are the pics of the units.
