| I mean, early release yesterday did contribute to the adjusted 2pm rush hour effect, but it got everyone off the roads when the heavier stuff started coming down--and the fact that OPM and other businesses closed early shows that it was the right call. And the delay today was all that was needed to melt down the sidewalks and neighborhood roads, and give school commuters a safe trip. I live midcounty, work downcounty, and have coworkers from the far north of the county, and everyone seems to agree. I feel like it's so rare that they get back-to-back calls so perfectly right that we should acknowledge it. This time, it was good. We'll see about next time. |

Agreed. So glad they didn't close today - that would have been insane.
Does anyone remember the days of 1-hour delays? Do they not do those anymore? |
A one-hour delay this morning would have put my HS kid on the bus just when the National Weather Service issued the snow squall warning. |
So what? Snow squalls happen all of the time by the great lakes and all of those kids make it to school. It was literally 10 minutes of snow. Why is everyone so clueless here. This isn't SC. We have snow every winter. We have cold every winter. |
Tell the National Weather Service that. |
Are you really not feeling that the correct calls were made? I feel that MCPS made the right calls both times. No call will please everyone, but these seemed pretty spot on. |
| I was driving to the bus stop during the squall. Lots of flakes but nothing on the road, |
Yes, that's why the NWS alert specifically mentioned visibility. "Sudden white-outs." |
|
Yes! MCPS' praises are not sung often enough.

One-hour delays are long gone. I doubt many DCUMers even remember the one-hour delays. |
I do but it’s because I attended MCPS schools 30 years ago. |
| Yes, they may the appropriate calls. Thanks MCPS! |
Here's what I remember about 1 hour delays: The time we had one, but my parents thought it was 2 hour, so I waited for my bus alone, then went back home to an empty house and had a "me" day. Later, we had a 2 hour delay, but my parents must have just heard "delay," so I was out waiting for my bus, alone again. This time was my mom was home, so she drove me to school and I was still like half an hour early. I'm guessing we were not the only family that couldn't get it together. Besides, I don't think 1 hour is a large enough time frame for the weather and conditions to change, given that the window for bus routes from HS to MS is longer than that. |
