| How was the quality of the play? Coaching? Any good teams? There were a lot of posts earlier about where to play futsal and Alexandria was an option. I believe people mentioned NPC. People were mentioning someone named "Gus". Were these teams in the tournament? If so, how did they do? I also heard that DC Hyper played in a futsal tournament in Spain recently. How did they look here? Thanks. |
Gus is Gus Donalo, who runs Puma Elite, which now is in conjunction with St James. His teams a largely FCV players. They had a lot of teams there. |
| The tournament was very good. A lot of different clubs from all over DC/VA/MD. The caliber of play was quite good. Overall I enjoyed it. A lot of programs that are new to Futsal and some more established programs. Just get with a program they are all growing and need support in these early stages. |
| Regarding DC Hyper: Their 06/07 team went 2-1 in the group stages of the Barcelona tournament, then won the second tier (FCB won first tier). |
| DC Hyper Futsal is probably the best futsal teams in the DMV. Very small group not an over-hyped club type program. They are almost a grass roots Brazilian style program great coaching and very selective on the kids the take in. Not to say over talented but the kids the train have to buy in to the culture of the program or they are not ask to continue. |
| Yeah my kids team played them a couple of years ago. Kids team was basically playing soccer with a little Futsal thrown in. It was fun to watch even though we got destroyed. |
The teams they took to this tourney were a little different than the ones they took to Spain. They still did well, but I think Alexandria edged them out in a couple of finals. DC Hyper does a super job with their kids. |
Any college coaches watching? |
I did not ask. I don't think most participants cared. |
Why would college coaches be watching? |
Agreed. I am not aware of the D1 futsal programs looking for new recruits. But not every athlete views tournaments as a resume-building opportunity. Some play because they like it, hopefully most. In any event, on the boys side, there were some likely D1 recruits playing for some of the futsal clubs like Hyper and PG Young Boys. They might actually like playing, who knows. |
I witnessed a DC Hyper coach scream the F word at a ref, push the ref, and get a red card. The head of ASA had to intervene before the the DC Hyper coach would stop, he was about to punch the ref. I also sw and heard at least one of the DC Hyper players tell the ref to F off. The DC Hyper coach ended up taking his entire team and leaving, forfeiting the game with about 3 minutes left. Super classy, especially in front of kids. This was around 3pm, on court 1 on Sunday at the Armory. I think the team was boys U11, 12 or 13. If this had been my son's team I would have been insanely upset with the coach. |
Was U13, I believe. The coach is a really good guy. Don't know what happened but it should not have and I feel badly for all involved, especially all the kids. |
Well someone told me that coach had also gotten a red card and kicked out at nationals, but I wasn't there. I was at the Armory yesterday and saw yesterday's shenanigans. That coach wouldn't stop, got right in the ref's face, screaming, pushed him, swearing. The police eventually showed up, but he had already left. |
It was the U13 final. How long did it take the police to get there because I heard he coached and these red carded kids played in the U14 semi final after this game and the U14 final after the semi final. The police must have taken their time. I can't believe ASA didn't throw them out of the building immediately. |
