Alexandria Futsal Tournament Thread (Not Complaining or Discussing $10 Parking)

How was the quality of the play? Coaching? Any good teams? There were a lot of posts earlier about where to play futsal and Alexandria was an option. I believe people mentioned NPC. People were mentioning someone named "Gus". Were these teams in the tournament? If so, how did they do? I also heard that DC Hyper played in a futsal tournament in Spain recently. How did they look here? Thanks.

I can't answer questions about Gus or DC Hyper, but my son's team played in the tournament, and the quality of play was fairly good overall. He plays for Alexandria on their futsal ID teams, and several of the teams that we beat were soccer teams playing futsal, rather than teams focused on futsal. If my son's soccer team had matched them in a soccer game, they probably would have won.

The teams they took to this tourney were a little different than the ones they took to Spain. They still did well, but I think Alexandria edged them out in a couple of finals. DC Hyper does a super job with their kids.

I witnessed a DC Hyper coach scream the F word at a ref, push the ref, and get a red card. The head of ASA had to intervene before the the DC Hyper coach would stop, he was about to punch the ref. I also sw and heard at least one of the DC Hyper players tell the ref to F off. The DC Hyper coach ended up taking his entire team and leaving, forfeiting the game with about 3 minutes left. Super classy, especially in front of kids. This was around 3pm, on court 1 on Sunday at the Armory. I think the team was boys U11, 12 or 13. If this had been my son's team I would have been insanely upset with the coach.

Was U13, I believe. The coach is a really good guy. Don't know what happened but it should not have and I feel badly for all involved, especially all the kids.

It was the U13 final. How long did it take the police to get there because I heard he coached and these red carded kids played in the U14 semi final after this game and the U14 final after the semi final. The police must have taken their time. I can't believe ASA didn't throw them out of the building immediately.

I was there saw the entire game. The referee was horrible . Still no excuse for a youth coach to act out the way he did. DC Hyper Was winning the game the entire time. They played very physical but not dirty at all. The referee was almost trying to level out the game by calling fouls against and carding DC Hyper. Bad officiating led to the game getting out of control. The referee had most likely never watched a team play that physical in futsal and honestly didn't know how call it. Very bad ending all because of the under qualified refereeing.

Sounds like it was a positive youth sports environment. I should sign up my kid.

Tournament rules did not allow for ANY shoulder charges or slide tackling. You can't push an opponent. The rules basically eliminated physical play, so I don't think the refs were wrong here. DC Hyper came back from Spain where physicality is allowed, so they felt that they should follow Euro rules. They knew the tournament rules, they just felt like they were too soft and pushed the boundaries. Then they have the nerve to abuse the ref.

Bad officiating may have been a part of the debacle, but the team is a reflection of the club/coach. If the coach is as awful as suggested by the behavior, I would question what is being taught the kid. For all the talk about futsal being a technical sport, it seems that physicality still takes precedent.

What kind of tournament was it? of course you can shoulder charge in futsal. Its not Euro rules its simply futsal rules. The Ref clearly didn't know the game of futsal.

From tournament website, on the rules page:

Shoulder Charge | Not allowed.

Sliding Tackling | Sliding tackles are not allowed at this Futsal Cup.
- Players are allowed to slide on the court (e.g., to stop a ball from going out of play, to direct a pass towards the net, etc.)

Tournaments shouldn't have house rules. Doing so makes officiating inconsistent.

My son has played for that coach. He is not dirty. He doesn’t teach dirty. He is a good guy who had a bad moment.

Never put it past DCUM to take a bad moment and twist it into a lifelong narrative.

Cursing at an pushing a ref is a serious bad moment.

Well someone told me that coach had also gotten a red card and kicked out at nationals, but I wasn't there. I was at the Armory yesterday and saw yesterday's shenanigans. That coach wouldn't stop, got right in the ref's face, screaming, pushed him, swearing. The police eventually showed up, but he had already left.

They have always been like that, I saw the same thing happen but it was 2 or 3 years ago at a regional tournament. The kids were fantastic but the coach went ballistic on them for every little thing, just a complete asshole. In the second half he went off on the ref and got red card and forfeited the tournament. Im pretty sure this is why their program has not grown beyond a few boys age groups.

Yes. I agree. But I have had worse. If you haven’t, congratulations on your journey to sainthood. The self-righteousness is all there and on fully display. You are well on your way!

I don't know how people act in your workplace, but no one acts that way in mine. This is the man's job.
