DD 4 got invited to a birthday of a friend from preschool who is a twin. The other twin is not in her class, so I asked my DD what her name was and she said Anna(not using exact names) The twin in her class is named Anna, so I just knew she was getting confused, but she instead they both were named Anna. Sure enough one was named AnnaClaire and the other AnnaJane. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a parent give their kids basically the same name. |
I’ve met several people who gave their kids the same name but it was always the male/female version.
Think Daniel and Danielle, Adelyn and Aiden etc. I always found it a little odd, but whatever. |
Allow me to introduce you to George Foreman. |
I was just about to post this exact example. |
I know a man named Adrian whose sister has the same name, just pronounced differently. |
It’s a beautiful Sunday morning, and you’re on here criticizing people for something minor? Really, OP. Try to enjoy your life without bringing other people down. |
I’m a teacher. There’s nothing about names that can surprise me anymore. |
As if you aren’t doing EXACTLY the same thing....get off your phone and go enjoy the morning and stop criticizing people who criticize! You are not the self-appointed gatekeeper of allowability here, let the lady voice an opinion |
I'm not. I walked my dog this morning in the crisp fresh air, and I'm sitting here now enjoying my cup of chocolate coffee. I am asking OP to avoid criticizing people for minor things. It is not a criticism, but an exhortation. We have entered the Holiday season, full of activity and stress, and we should all remind ourselves to enjoy what's given to us and not lash out at others for no reason. |
What is chocolate coffee? It sounds good! |
DP sometimes it is cultural. I knew a girl from Mexico and she said all her sisters were named Maria and then a different middle name. They were all called by their middle name. I also knew someone who named her two sons Sean and Ian which is basically the same name too. ( John in Irish and Scottish) |
I knew a set of twins when I was in high school. The boy was Alexander and the girl was Alexandra. They both went by Alex as a nickname. They hated it! |
A girl I went to high school with named her son Devin, then when she had another boy (girl in between, so I think 4 years later), named him Devon. All that time to think and couldn't come up with a new name! |
My friends daughter named her girls Brea and Breala
Her mom told her it was awful. |
My guess is they assumed people would use the full compound name for each twin, and didn't realize that people would just use the first name for each.
So they thought that they had two different names - Mary Catherine and Mary Jane. But that's not how it worked out in reality. |
