Why would you name your kids the same thing!

I know a family we call The Gees. Mom and Dad have G first names and G surname as do all of their children.

Similar to Gary and Gloria Gordon and children, Garrett, Gilbert, Gregory, Garth and Greer...I have to take deep breath and think before using any of their names. Still say things like Gl--, Gr- Garrr...greeee...Guuuuu

That isn’t the same name. The parents didn’t execute this properly. In situations like this, you have to repeatedly tell people (and teach your kids to tell people) “It’s AnnaClaire” or “Its AnnaJane”. You have to do it with family and friends, and then do it again when they start school. It can be a lot. A cousin named her son the same thing as his dad, and wanted people to call him by his first name and not junior, AJ, Little A, or whatever. She spent YEARS correcting people. I’m sure some people just give up, and then you end up with twin Annas.

I DO know a family that named both of the sons the exact same name. Both sons have the same first, middle and last name.

I have a friend who's son has the same name as his Dad but he is called the double of it. So Dad is Larlo and son is Larlo Larlo

We are expecting a ds (have a dd) and can't find a name we like. We jokingly/not so jokingly say we're just going to name him the male version of our daughter's name.

Depending on the name, hilarious and made me giggle! John John! Jack Jack! Mark Mark! Vic Vic! Lou Lou! (Tell me it's not Lulu!)...Tom Tom. There's not one name --doubled --that doesn't sound absolutely absurd yet comical. And, it couldn't be a mulitsyllabic name, please tell me it isn't. I mean, Douglas Douglas or Gregory Gregory or Christopher Christopher or Harrison Harrison or Chesterfield Chesterfield...

What if it's something like Chip Chip?

The other twin is not in her class, so I asked my DD what her name was and she said Anna(not using exact names) The twin in her class is named Anna, so I just knew she was getting confused, but she instead they both were named Anna. Sure enough one was named AnnaClaire and the other AnnaJane. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a parent give their kids basically the same name.

DP sometimes it is cultural. I knew a girl from Mexico and she said all her sisters were named Maria and then a different middle name. They were all called by their middle name. I also knew someone who named her two sons Sean and Ian which is basically the same name too. ( John in Irish and Scottish)

+1. I think pp is onto something. I’m Asia, or at least the Chinese culture, it’s not uncommon. For instance Mei Li Chen, Mei Ching Chen. The “Mei” would be considered a generational name. Though we don’t have middle names.

The Mary and Maria thing is a catholic thing. My grandma was 1 of 12 and all the girls are named Mary. Only the first is called Mary and the others go by their middle names. I’ve seen this tons of times. It’s to honor the Virgin Mary

I’m not French but it seems French do something similar with John. I know a John-luc, John-Pierre and a jean-Philippe all in the same family.

Is the dad’s name John? The kid is John John?

I know kids named after their last name, for example James James.
How about that for originality.

Very common in Argentina too. Your first name is Maria, but everybody calls you by your middle name.

I had a high school classmate whose whole family all had the initials JDL. Mom, Dad, and three kids. Think Jennifer Diane Lastname, John David Lastname, Jane Deborah Lastname, Jessica Dawn Lastname, Jeffrey Dane Lastname.

I have no idea how they labeled things at home to keep them straight. Maybe they just used colors?

I found the Five Marys Farm Instagram a while back and they have Mary (mom), MaryFrances, MaryMarjorie, MaryJane and MaryTheresa

I just watched the movie Four Christmases, and when one of the characters goes home, we learn he isn't really Brad. He's one of three brothers whose names were Dallas, Denver, and Orlando, after their conception city. It came out in 2008, maybe they watched the movie and decided it was an excellent idea for their kids.

I suppose it could have been worse. They could have been named Courtyard Marriott or Peugeot 407 or something.
