| My worst habit is snacking, late afternoons and right before bed. That is an “AND,” not an “or,” by the way, as in 2 treats per day. And for me it’s all about the sugar. 2 weeks ago, I decided no more snacking. Now I have a before bed tea (plain, no sugar or cream). I had dessert on thanksgiving but otherwise, no desserts and no snacking. 2 weeks in, I step on the scale and weigh .2 lb more. I mean, really. How’s a girl supposed to stay motivated? I wasn’t looking for giant strides, but something? Anything? |
| Count calories |
| I would stay off the scale for a month, really. The scale is terrible. Take some waist and thigh measurements |
+1 Throw away the scale. |
| You must be replacing your sweets with extra calories. If you truly calorie count pounds will fly off. Trust me. I've lost 18 pounds since October 12th (172 to 154...and still losing). |

I suggest that you step on the scale every day, same time, like first thing in the morning after bathroom before shower. and keep all readings in some sort of app, like Libra.
App smoothes daily ups and downs, and show you trend of your weight. As long as trend is going down - I know I'm doing something right |
| Stop snacking. It’s just food! |
This i the funniest thing I've ever read. |
|
Quit sugar. Completely.
Go low carb. Eat protein and adequate fat. Sleep enough. Drink water. Find some motivational quotes and repeat them as your mantras. Track calories. That's what works for me. |
But it’s true. |
| OP I get your point - you figured that instead of having to make a major effort like counting calories, you'd cut out two snacks and that should translate to weight loss. You're still sacrificing and it's not enjoyable, and that should lead to some results. And then it doesn't. It totally sucks. I get it. |

you are discouraged by 0.2lbs and claiming noting works over 0.2lbs?. Really that is nothing. Even if you lost a pound of fat over the past week the scale could still say "up 0.2" because you had more salt yesterday, didn't poop, are still bloated from thanksgiving dinner; whatever. Weight fluctuates. I was up 4 lbs after Thanksgiving but I know it's mostly just bloat.
Track calories, cutting snacks won't do much if you make up for those calories at other times. |
Snacking is a bad habit, but it is almost never the ONLY bad habit. I would start tracking what you eat, every day, using some kind of app. I use MyFitnessPal but there are plenty of others that you could use. You are probably eating more than you think you are. |
| Brush your teeth and drink tea. |
Oh god this. I had been super slim all my life. Could literally eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound. It was just my metabolism. Then 40 hit, plus I started taking Lexapro, and I started packing on the pounds. When I was up to 20 lbs over my usual weight, I decided to start tracking calories. Holy crap. I was eating A LOT. Way more than 2500 calories a day. And my metabolism wasn’t taking care of it. So I cut my calories to 1400/day. In the beginning it was TORTURE. But now, almost a month in, I have lost 4 pounds (slow, I know, but I’m playing the long game!) and I’m just not craving food as much as I used to. And the nice thing about counting calories is I can still enjoy a sweet treat, as long as I stay below my daily calorie goal. I use an app to track my calories, and it’s pretty easy. |
