Page Six is also on the payroll. You can tell by the way the article is worded. I work in PR, this was definitely paid for, I can spot these from a mile away. Her PR person must be working overtime.

| Is she culturally appropriating Groucho Marx? |
How does this work, exactly? Aren’t these basically just regurgitated IG posts? They don’t read like press releases. Would celebrities really pay to have stories like this placed? And why? |
| I think she’s fascinating. And I wonder if maybe it’s not some big scheme she’s cooked up. But maybe as she entered adulthood she started playing up the fact that she visited Spain and spoke Spanish. Maybe it made her feel different and special at a time when it’s easy to feel insignificant and lost. And then it just snowballed. And by the time she met Alex (mid 20s) most of her friends and acquaintances believed she was Spanish. And then she was stuck. And maybe Alec knows all of this and thinks it’s quirky. Maybe he’s impressed by how much she loves Spain and the language and he accepts it about her. And he goes along with it not because he thinks it’s a lie, but because he loves her and think it makes her unique. But what do I know lol. Like I said, I find her fascinating. And I’m willing to bet that this whole “Spanish persona” is a big topic behind her back, among her friends and family. They probably just roll their eyes. |
| *meant to say Alec, not Alex |
| She’s got issues. I’m 1/4 Dominican and i could probably pull off an “ethnic” persona if I was nuts too. But it would feel unauthentic and almost disrespectful to my Dominican family. Plus I’d be so embarrassed. Makes you wonder how she’s able to pretend without anyone calling her on it in public |
Wait, isn’t she pretending to be Spanish from Spain? If so, I don’t know I’d call this an “ethnic” charade — she’s white, isn’t she? And the vast majority of Spaniards are white. It’s weird though to be sure. But it would be much much creepier if she were pulling a Jessica Krug and pretending to be, I don’t know, Taino or Mayan or something. |
I guess to me, it seems less like cultural appropriation and more like being an imposter. There have been plenty of Americans (and others!) who have pretended to be European throughout our history. Especially European royalty. It makes them seem more exotic and exciting to other Americans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_impostors https://www.history.com/news/7-people-who-pretended-to-be-royals Some people actually do it to scam/grift (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/german-heiress-new-york-fraud-anna-delvey-sorokin-trial-con-a8842056.html) while others do it just to add interest to their backstory. HB is one of the latter, I think. IMO, by pretending to be Spanish, HB can still maintain her white identity, but also create/claim an exotic, sexy, "Latin" identity that is more exciting and interesting than her actual WASPy background. And it works! Her Spanish/Latin "heritage" is mentioned in almost every story about her. She gets extra coverage in the Spanish media. And she gets a 60-something-page thread in DCUM

Ugggh, this is from Newsday. This looks paid for as well:
According to etymology websites, "Eduardo" is of Spanish origin and means "wealthy guardian." "Pau" is the word "peace" in Catalan, a language spoken in some regions of Spain — including the island of Mallorca, where Hilaria Baldwin was born — but is a separate language from Spanish. "Lucas" is a variant of "Luke," which is ascribed multiple meanings including "light," from the Latin "lux." |
Hahaha omg. |
| One of you has to be a good writer. Pitch it somewhere! I want this psycho exposed. |

Nope. She was into Spanish culture (did Latin ballroom dancing competitively) and spoke Spanish fluently, but she had blondish hair and did not actually pretend to be Spanish. At all. I was acquainted with her then. The Spanish thing either developed coincidentally around the same time she met Alec or she played it up because he liked it. Not sure. But, timing-wise, we're talking about around the same time. |
Yeah, that's my thought as well. But she took it way too far. It wouldn't surprise me if she was blonde, both her parents are. |
Um. !!! Please tell us more? |
