Yep, here’s how it works: They will allow Hogan to deviate from MAGA orthodoxy if his vote is not needed. If Hogan’s vote *is* needed, however, he will do as he is told. Hogan will provide the decisive vote for Trump’s SC nominees and he will never ever give Democrats the 51st vote needed to block Trump’s SC nominees. There is no chance that Harris and Hogan will both win. |
He wants to run for President |
Why should Democrats cross party lines to vote for Hogan when Hogan isn’t willing to cross party lines and vote for Harris? |
I hope he does because I would gladly vote for him then too. |
^^^ THIS |
This person pays absolutely no attention to Republican politics. All that you have to do is look at Trump's administration where a number of Republicans regularly thwarted his agenda... Romney, Murkowski, etc. If you look at Supreme Court nominees, you will also see that Romney, Murkowski and Collins all voted for Ketanji Brown Jackson. Hogan would be no different because he knows that he would not be re-elected. Most MAGA would consider Hogan to be part of the same RINO club (even if they would vote for him over Alsobrooks.) |
“Regularly thwarted his agenda” really? The only thing I can think of is McCain voting no on Obamacare repeal but what other elements were regularly thwarted? |
That "etc." is doing a lot of work there. |
All of Trump’s SC nominees were confirmed. The only thing thing Trump wanted that was “thwarted” was ACA repeal, and that was because John McCain knew he was nearing the end of his life, would never seek political office again, and actually cared more about his legacy than his political future, which was finished. It was a sui generis moment, a perfect storm we will almost certainly never witness again. |
Same here. I was very disappointed he didn't run in the primaries. |
He’s toast. There is no future for him in the Republican party |
I actually think if Trump loses there is a future for him. Most of Trump’s MAGA candidates failed (see the “red wave” that never materialized), so even if Alsobrooks wins, I hope there is a place for him. If Harris is serious about wanting moderate Republicans to have a seat at the table, he should be on her short list for some post. |
He talks about “country over party” but can’t even bring himself to vote for her so that tells me he isn’t serious about it and he certainly doesn’t belong in a Harris administration. And what accomplishments does he even have? That he torqued state spending on transportation away from blue areas towards property he owned. |
I was wondering about that too. Don't forget his accomplishment of requiring all school districts to open after Labor Day, because that was good for Ocean City tourism, and then the General Assembly said Nah, we'll let the school districts make their own decisions. In general, his "moderation" consists of having to be governor in a state with a Democratic supermajority in both houses of the state legislature. He came in hot to go Republican in 2014-2015 but then found out the limits. |
And they also voted for Kavanaugh after being assured of his "respect for precedent." And we all know how that turned out. |
