VA Public Schools other than FCPS
Or.... the parents in a certain other school community (one that's well known for its screamers and not well regarded in general) are irrationally obsessed with bad-mouthing Nottingham. |
?? |
| If I were involved with Nottingham I’d try to lock down these elitist types and get them off the forum and the other sites. They are essentially hurting your cause. I can say with certainty that APS reads these threads. And you are not helping yourselves. |
This. PP already has sChOoL cHoIcE. PAY for it. You aren’t getting vouchers. |
I’ve read all 57 pages of this thread and can’t find the elitist posts you are talking about. What I see is: - parents not wanting their walkable, neighborhood school to close - a neighborhood not wanting the large increase in traffic that would result from a walkable neighborhood school turning into a 100 pct bus/car school - parents wanting answers about how to retain teachers and administrators in the 3 years it would take to put this plan into action, if it happens - parents asking questions about the possibility outdated data being used to predict enrollment across the affected area - parents asking questions about the multiple TBD line items in the plan to close Nottingham, and why budget figures keep changing - parents asking if the schools that will use the Nottingham swing space for a year or two while their own school is under construction actually want to use it as a swing space |
| If you’ve read this whole thread and you haven’t seen Nottingham families pointing fingers at other schools to be a target for swing space or closure instead of Nottingham — their prior MO when APS has asked them to do hard things they don’t want to do — then you might have some biases that are getting in the way just like you are accusing others in this thread. So there’s that. |

Parents saying that they families who live on “Route 50 access roads” should be the ones to take the swing space because Nottingham families paid a lot of money to live in a quiet neighborhood.
Parents saying that under 400 students is actually the ideal enrollment and APS should not burden Nottingham just because other schools elsewhere have more kids. Parents exploiting the deaths in the neighborhood to mean that Nottingham could not handle buses from other locations. |
It isn’t exploiting their deaths to bring up a real concern about traffic fatalities immediately adjacent to the school. |
| Patents saying that it is a huge sacrifice to have to their kids walk to Tuckahoe or Discovery. I’m not sure they know what that word means! |
I think some of these are trolls from other schools trying to disparage Nottingham. |
That’s not really an issue and doesn’t address most of the concerns that parents have. Honestly, my property values would probably go up if I was rezoned from Nottingham to Discovery. That’s not what this is about. |
Except that you want your kids to continue to walk there! |
Ha! So, it’s fake news. Even though many many Nottingham families have said similar things at meetings. And right before the pandemic someone active in your pta tried to get don Beyer involved. Yes. Your claim is credible. Eyeroll. |
Flip it to closing your beloved school. Would you take it sitting down and just accept it? Of course not. |
|
Serious question for the non Nottingham parents: if this was happening to your school, what would you do to try and save your school and prevent it from closing?
You’re gonna say nothing, good of the community, etc, etc, etc, but we know that’s not what you’d actually do. Wouldn’t you be out there asking questions? |
