| I was sitting in my car, legally parked, when a driver pulling to to the space next to me misjudged the space and dented the whole side of my car. Their first reaction was to drive off but I jumped out and took picture of their license plate with my phone. Then they protested it didn’t happen. Then they produced a drivers license that I photographed. Not theirs and out of date. WWYD? Please could use your advice. Damage is $2000. |

Call your insurance company and give them the lic plate of the other car.
This is what you pay them for. |
| Did you report to insurance company? |
| Should've called the police and made a police report right there. |
| Do you have comprehensive car insurance? What is your deductible in this scenario? Mine would be $0 so I’d just call my insurance and tell them exactly what happened. |
| Agree with the rest. 911 and insurance company. |
|
1st, call your insurance company. Provide all of the photos and the fake ID. If they say you need to, take your photos into a police department.
I wouldn’t tell them that you already got an estimate though. Hopefully it hasn’t been a long time. $2k is too much to pay out of pocket when you weren’t at fault so contact your insurance right away. |
Call police but not 911. This is clearly not an emergency. |
umm no. Police don't do reports that occur on private property. Its handled by insurance. |
What on earth? Why would you think that? |
File a claim of uninsured motorist with your insurance. Just know that when you go to sell the car/trade it in someday, it will come up on the Carfax as having been in an accident. |
Because I am a Police dispatcher and I take many calls a day. We don't do reports for accidents on private property and we don't do hit and run reports unless there suspect info like a plate or someone left a note for you. You pay insurance to handle these things. |
They won't come. All you can do is hand it over to your insurance at this point. |
dp - interesting but makes sense i suppose. op is saying the other person provided fake info... isn't that enough for cop to get involved? |
It's state dependent. I'd still call the police. |
