No legal requirement to stay after accident if no one hurt.

umm no. Police don't do reports that occur on private property. Its handled by insurance.

What on earth? Why would you think that?

Because I am a Police dispatcher and I take many calls a day. We don't do reports for accidents on private property and we don't do hit and run reports unless there suspect info like a plate or someone left a note for you.
You pay insurance to handle these things.

Please be careful giving out bad information here. This is not correct in every jurisdiction. I just had a hit and run in a parking lot where the other person drove off. Someone else got the license plate number. Not only were the police will to take a report and track down the driver, but I had the option to file charges.

It often depends on whether or not there is an existing agreement allowing police to enforce that area. For instance, HOAs are privately owned but have agreements that allow police to enforce on the community property. In Virginia, police may enforce on property that is in public view (there is some debate about the idea of public view) depending on how the statute is written.

At this point, your insurance should be dealing with this. Ultimately, your insurance pays. If they get re-imbursed from someone else, that's their job to track down the responsible party.

This happened to me in the DMV parking lot. Another car pulled out of their spot backed into my car and just drove away. I was able to write down their license plate info. Went into the DMV and told the people there what happened and called the insurance co.

Insurance paid for fixing the car. The cops tracked down the driver and I had to go to court and testify. Not sure of the outcome.

In your case, just call your insurance co. and give the details. Follow their advice.

Like the picture of the license plate? Fraud and hit and run are crimes whether on public property or not.

But it they stay they only have to exchange information. Even if they stay can move car.

I only hit one or two people in life. I recall I tapped some guy Parrell parking. He saw me hit him runs out of restaurant.

Jerk tried to take up two spots. Gave him my info. I actually had a broker and he told nothing to report on my side. I have no damage, no one in his car, let’s see what happens

Nothing ever did. Unless s public street and an injury or cars inoperable the driver who caused it can leave after giving you info

Btw driver who got hit is partial responsible. Did you beep, did you attempt to move?

A car backed into my car (in a parking space) at the Sweetwater Tavern in Vienna and took off, I got the license plate and YES the police did come after I called and reported the car (because I figured the person was drunk). I also got side swiped in DC about 8 yrs ago and the police came then as well. Of course they were very matter of fact about it, and didn't do anything - but they came to speak with me.

OP, so you got the DL Info, and you got the tag # what about insurance information.

did you exchange insurance information?, contact info, like phone/cell ect...

again this is not a police matter. and maybe, if an officer is near by and not busy on a call dispatch could have called one to come over to assist with the exchange of information.

but a call to the non emergency line would not have hurt you..

Where was the parking lot? See if you can get the security footage.
