Grade Obama

I have conservative and liberal friends/associates. As a whole, neither group thought Obama deserved a B+ for his first year in office. What grade do you think he deserves (and why)?

Ask me in January.

B-. He's just moving more slowly than I would like.

I love Obama, he has an A+ from me

Hard to know, given all the challenges he has faced. While I disagree with the way he has handled some things (based on my true beliefs I would give most presidents an F), given that he has had so much thrown at him so soon he might deserve a good grade based on effort.

Transparency - F
Bi-partisanship - F
Teleprompter - B+
Shirtless on the Beach - A+++

I'm a supporter but I am getting tired of what comes off as arrogance. I saw an old clip of JFK recently, an interview, and he was so elegant and humble. Obama really comes off as being really full of himself. It seems like a serious character flaw.

Not sure yet how I would grade Obama. Agree with PPs that he was given a heap of awfulness to deal with the day he was sworn in. And I am of the ilk that thinks just about anything is better than Bush/Cheney.

On the other hand, I don't really understand how people think that the president can fix all these problems. The ones who need to be graded are Congress, and they get a big fat F for bickering amongst themselves and caring more about party and re-election than actually trying to make the world a better place.

Bah humbug.

He is articulate and good at reading from a teleprompter and acting. He needs to work on coming across as confident rather than arrogant. Maybe that is what happens when things are handed to you. Of course, he does have a lot of issues to deal with so good job for his efforts.

I always thought Bush looked like he was constipated. Other times he looked like he felt deeply insecure and uncertain at the same time as he was giving his speech. I never felt that way when I heard him on the radio but when I saw him give a speech I just thought that guy is terrified everyone will find out he is a fake. (Of course, it wasn't a secret as far as I was concerned but maybe if I had only heard him on the radio I would have had more confidence in his ability to lead.)

BTW, I also heard that people who heard Nixon and Kennedy debate thought Nixon had won the debate. People who watched it on tv saw Nixon sweat and they thought Kennedy had won.

I think that is a mis-read of JFK. Not that I hold it against him, but he was a pretty arrogant man.

Think he could be more innovative. Not as much "new" stuff as I expected. I thought I would see solar panels all over the place.

I give him a C-, and that's just because he finally had the guts to do what he campaigned on - sending more troops to Afghanistan. If he did it quicker, I might give him a C+. Is he really scared of the far left?

18:32 Have you seen old TV clips of JFK? He comes off as more mature and less full of himself, much more statesmanlike. I cannot decipher his arrogance level but he does not appear full of himself the way Barack is. Barack is really, really out there with his high self-esteem. He and Michelle should pull back from all their treacly TV interviews. It was fine when we were getting to know them but it's been over a year since he elected and all this cutesy bootsy stuff (Oprah was the latest) is getting old.
