| Please, give me advices. I really don’t know how act and what to do. My husband has been abusing his adderral prescription for a while, and even though we talked and he said he would get better, he really didn’t. I started monitoring how much he takes it once I noticed he was going 2,3, and sometime 4 days in a row without any sleep. Can I report him to his doctor? Would the front desk even let me talk to him? As of today, I noticed he went through 30 pills of instant release and 26 pills of extended in 10 days. He has prescription for both, 60 pills a month. I’m so hopeless that I can’t even think straight. |
| I don't think reporting him is going to do anything. He isn't going to change unless he wants to, and he's addicted right now. I would try a Al-Alon meeting to see what your options are for yourself right now. |
|
I don't think reporting is the right step here. He needs treatment or rehab instead. You need to encourage him to get help rather than trying to get him in trouble.
The keys to a successful intervention are influence and leverage. Are you ready to leave him if he doesn't get help? If so, tell him that. Adderrall can be highly addictive so it's likely out of control for him at this point. Best of luck, I hope he gets the help he needs. |
| Yes, you could call his psychiatrist or therapist or whoever is prescribing the medication. Just tell them what you've seen, to give them a heads up. |
| But don’t you think his doctor should be aware of his abuse? |
I do. The doc could get in trouble for prescribing. |
|
As someone else said, I think a good place to start would be al-anon.
Best of luck. |
so what happens when he runs out of pills before the end of the month? Does he function? |
| Al anon and call to doctor sounds like a good start. I'd also start documenting things, OP. Just in case the doctor is shady. |
|
So then is he just out for the rest of the month? Adderral is really tough to get refills of, so presumably the doctor is givin him an appropriate dose for the month?
Pool I would call the doctor, as I would anytime I had a family member with a psychiatric issue that wasn’t being upfront with his psychiatrist. They can’t tell you anything but they can listen and let it inform their decision making. |
That's my question too. What does he do when he runs out? |
|
You need to think this through.
How will reporting him affect you? Your life? Your security? Are you ready to walk away from him or vice/versa. |
| Are you sure he's not selling them? ...not that it makes the situation any better , but it is a different type of beast . |
| OP here. I have been documenting everything and it seems like it is getting worse every month. I have adhd and go to the same doctor. I do not take my pill every day. If I am on vacation, during the weekend and off here and there, I just don’t take it. Because of that I used to have a good amount of pills, and I noticed they were vanishing the day I counted them, and saw I barely had for the rest of the month. So he went through a lot of them on my back. I was just thinking how he will handle the rest of the month, because he has a demanding job and only has 4 pills. |
He has been awake for three days in a row. He is not selling them, he is trying to buy more from my friend’s husband as she told me. He doesn’t need to sell them. He has problems with addiction and being obsessive with a lot of things. |
