| The principal’s email said it was a racist incident on social media. And it was threatening. |
| You don't want to know. I would say, but I would be outed. |
| ? |
| was it against another student? |
Which platform? |
|
Can someone post the email.
My DD will be there next year. |
Also wondering. Is it a general threat, and a safety issue? |
|
Kids are stupid on social media.
Oh, adults too I supposed. |
| Social Media threat. Cabin John parents to blame. How hard is it to monitor your kids social media?? It’s not. |
It didn't say. Here's the first paragraph, which is all that explains the issue. The rest is about talking to your kids, and there will be counselors there for support this week. "It has been brought to our attention that a Cabin John Middle School student posted a threatening and racially offensive message on social media over the weekend. Students immediately reported this problem, and in conjunction with the MCPS Office of School Support and Improvement and the MCPS Department of School Safety and Security, the Montgomery County Police Department fully investigated the threat and determined that there is no immediate concern. The student and his family will be working with us to ensure that this never happens again. " |
It's very hard to monitor. Your child has AT LEAST one or two accounts that you don't know about. I promise you. The best thing is to not give your child a smartphone. |
| My DD is a sixth grader at CJ and hasn’t heard anything. Anyone know what the threat said? |
No, I'm OP and my kid is in 7th grade. He's very active online and hasn't heard of anything. I find it very concerning that police were involved. That sounds like it's much more than regular middle school stupidity. |
Eh. MCPS has a history of involving the police for anything that is even remotely racially offensive. (While at the same time, not involving the police when kids are reporting sexual abuse - as in the Damascus rape case). I wouldn’t read too much into the fact that police were called. |
In 7th grade? I have a 7th grader at a different MS and she’s not on social media. I spend a ton of time driving her and her friends all over and they rarely talk about social media stuff. I know by HS this will change, but I don’t think every 12/13 year old is on Instagram. |
