Can you rent a basement of a house and go to that local school

Anonymous
If I rent a basement of a house in another school boundary - but still live in current home, Can I use the rental as my address to get DD into school?
Anonymous
If you are living there yes.
Anonymous
Yes, get a signed lease.
Anonymous
Yes, but your DD has to live in the basement.
Anonymous
PP is correct. Your child has to actually live there.

That sounds really unethical and dishonest OP. Dont' you think?
Anonymous
Sure! As long as you guys live there.

People can report you. Like your DD's friends' parents and such. Think about that.

I think you only need to sleep there 20 nights a month. Not bad! You could still enjoy your nice house the remaining days.

As a first grade teacher I work a lot on helping kids learn their address and how to write it correctly. There is always one kid telling me a completely different address than he is registered too. It makes me really in a terrible position. Just don't be that mom.

Also make sure the owner has a rental license and that the basement meets the requirements for light, ventilation and emergency egress.

Lots of people in good school districts will 'lease' to you without you living there. You better hope you don't get nailed tho.
Anonymous
Not legally because you don’t actually reside there.
