This is just obnoxious. Grannies have been providing childcare for centuries. Why shouldn’t Granny do child care? This comment is individualism to a crazy extreme. |

It depends on which school. The elementary schools in Churchill and Wootton are under enrolled and people are not looking out for this. The crowded elementary schools in BCC, Whitman or WJ that are close to the Silver Spring border do have people looking out for this.
In MS and HS, its less likely for other parents to notice. |

There are families living in basements
I heard of one high schooler, parents had to move out of state during senior year, so they rented a room for their kid and he lived on his own for a while Perhaps the question is can a kid move out of the home while attending school |
| Yep. I rent a basement apartment in the neighborhood of the best school in our district so my son can go there. I am a teacher and can’t afford anything in a nice neighborhood like this so I thought this would be a good plan. We’ve been here for years and have no plans to leave. |
| Not in Maryland but I know of an incident in a local school district where the police went to the real home of a family early in the morning to see if they (mostly the kid) were there. They were using a different address for school purposes. Busted. Wherever the kid sleeps is where they live, for school purposes, but whoever lives there also has to have some custody of the kid. |
That’s actually a really good idea! Go there every day after school and have dinner until traffic dies down, do showers and homework and then drive home. |
DC is way different from MoCo. |
But it sounds like you actually live there. I don’t think OP wants to actually live in the apartment. |
See, it’s a cultural issue. Some cultures view things differently. |
So you are from obnoxious culture? Which one is that exactly? |
In which culture(s) is it unacceptable for grandmothers to provide child care? I'm asking sincerely. |
DCUM culture. |
The white and self-claimed residence police. If anyone rents a room, an apartment, a basement apartment in a good school distract with a lease and live there, they have the right to send their child to local school. |
Agreed. And, in reality, OP doesn't even have to actually rent an apartment. Just ask if you can use their address, and offer up a nice gift basket. |
That's the key part. |
