DC Metro Ugh

So today I am reminded of why I pay for parking and sit in traffic on a daily basis. Took the train today because of the protests. How do you people do this every day? I watched a man barrel into a woman while trying to get into the metro before the doors shut. He didn't even flinch, no apologies, nothing. I saw a man step on a woman's foot and proceed to rest his arm on her head (in a effort to squeeze his 6ft2 260 pound frame into a space that he clearly shouldn't have tried to wedge himself into. He didn't apologize or try to pretend to find somewhere else to rest his arm. And the kicker is there was another 6ft young man who proceeded to lecture the woman on how she needed to be understanding because the train was crowded.

All of this for w/ parking included almost -- $20. No thanks Metro and sorry planet but mass transpo as it currently exists isn't for me. I will never complain about my car commute ever again.

I took the train on a regular basis about 10 years ago. I don't remember people being this rude, even with trains that were much more crowded. Is it the design of the new train cars or do people just suck!

The new train cars are nice and roomy. People just suck.

Troll.

And how many women did you observe doing thoughtless, rude or inconsiderate things?

Because I noticed you seem to be very fixated on what things men are doing that don't meet with your approval.

So you saw a few rude people and that's enough to trigger you? Yikes.

Where were you coming from? Next time try commuter rail.

I ride all the time and this isn’t representative of my normal day. I guess it depends on your line.

Orange line out to VA, believe it or not, eyes roll... re commuter rail, I am not far enough out to use the commuter rail unfortunately, I would take a commuter bus over metro any day, but sadly as I am in a closer in suburb it isn't an option.

And yes large men behaving very badly, in physical ways, in public spaces that we are supposed to be sharing is unsettling.

I will stick to my solo commute, in the comfort of my auto from now on. Lesson learned. The general lack of civility was disturbing, no need to revisit. Call me a snowflake if you will. Not my scene.

As an add on. I remember riding crowded trains years ago, and people weren't oblivious and banging into each other. There was a lighthearted air to it. More of a this sucks but we, stuck like sardines in a can together. Maybe people are just ruder, maybe they are just mad at having to spend so much money on a miserable commute, maybe this area sucks. I don't know.

OP got on a train at rush hour with 40% more traffic because everyone was trying to do what s/he was doing (and they knew their cars wouldn't get through protest lines) and she's surprised their was much more packed train cars?

Sounds like you have some major man issues.

I took the train today just I've been doing for years. I squeezed into a seat next to a moderately obese middle-aged woman, both because I wanted to sit down and also because I was willing to squeeze into the space so she wouldn't be even more self-conscious about her weight. It wasn't the most comfortable Metro ride in the world, but we managed.

It didn't occur to me until I read your post that perhaps I should have demanded an apology from her about the amount of space she took up. I'll try to remember that next time.

You sound weak, OP.

My ten old DD and I take the blue line from Capitol Heights to Crystal City everyday and it's nice and calm in the Am. Coming home is a zoo but so far not bad.

The metro is the best. Vertical man spreaders are awesome. Sitting next to an obese person, so she doesn’t have to feel bad about herself, makes you Mother Theresa or the Pope??? Honestly no wonder metro sucks.

We will miss you, OP.
