Caroline Calloway and Natalie Beach

Is it me, but is this thing kind of petty? Caroline seems mentally ill. Why did Natalie put up with her for so long?

yeah, I think it's not that interesting if you're not in your 20s

Natalie is a sad sack, was my main take after reading the entire piece. I’d had no idea who Calloway is; I’m not their demographic.

What confuses me is the hundreds of comments, tweets, etc., extolling Beach the amazing writer. She’s not much of a talent to me, and is evidently grotesquely manipulative.

Caroline went to Episcopal then PGed at Exeter. She seems obsessed with status to the point of ridicule.

Everything Calloway does is manufactured for her image. She seems to live backwards, thinking that presenting herself as an author, artist, or some kind of mentor magically makes her one, even though she hasn’t put in the work to be any of those things. Then she’s surprised that she can’t cobble together a book on her own, she’s called out for knocking off famous paintings, and her mentoring projects fail so badly that she gains notoriety for being a scam artist.

I think that she is so thoroughly narcissistic that she truly can’t see how fake she is. All false image.

The piece written by Natalie embarrassed me for her naked low self esteem and resulting bitterness. I think she would have gotten more of the sympathy that she seems to crave if she had focused more on how Calloway had screwed her over and left out some of the self pity over her looks and lack of success with men.

Have ya'll check out her Instagram over the weekend after the article came out?

She's a 27 year old adult bragging about going to undergrad parties at Harvard and scoring coke. Like that is something cool for grown adults to do instead of pervy and creepy??

If a man did that (openly went to undergrad parties), he'd for sure be called out for being predatory.

She (Caroline) also posted a nude photo of herself two days after her dad died. Probably thirst trapping for those undergrad boys she knew she'd be scoping out at Harvard over the weekend

How did she gain acceptance to Cants for History of Art after starting at NYU? It's so strange but maybe she slid in under "mature student" status? It is weird that a 23 year-old would be going around with 18 year-olds.

Yup. She applied 3 times, twice as a regular undergrad then once as a "mature student" paying full way. Then she got in at 23.

It sounds like her dad had mental illness. She also wanted to please him. That's perhaps why she hangs around Harvard and did a post-grad year at Exeter. I can't look away from this mess. With the internet we can spectate in a way we couldn't newspapers.

He for sure had a mental illness. Look at her old instagram stories of his house; he was a hoarder. Very sad. I think she is mentally ill as well.

I do not like Caroline Calloway but Natalie sounds equally pathetic. I don't get what my takeaway from her tell-all was supposed to be. That an instagram influencer was a fake bitch? Uh, okay. I kind of figured they all are.

Also wtf is wrong with her that literally no one wanted to have sex with her lmfao. She said she approached a table of wall street guys and they laughed in her face...you'd have to be pretty busted for not one horny guy at a table of horny guys to want to take you home.

+1.

Natalie’s obsessive jealousy of Caroline is so blatantly apparent. She is hell-bent on revenge for never being like Caroline. I’m not really sure how Caroline wronged her—Natalie is mad that her payday and fame never materialized through the book deal. She reminds me of Gene in A Separate Peace and Tom Ripley in The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Why did Natalie not use her NYU degree to launch her own career? She seems to blame and resent Caroline for her success.

FWIW, I never heard if either of them until this thread. I’m definitely older than their target demographic.

No sympathy for either one - they both sound pathetic and sad. Natalie is trying to get a job, Caroline is just pathetic.

Women like Natalie creep me out and I was underwhelmed by her essay.

Caroline is shallow, nuts, grifter, likely mentally ill —- yeah we know. So what.

But Natalie basically pretended to be her friend for years while secretly seething and secretly hating her. That’s totally manipulative and user behavior in its own right. I have been “friends” with Natalies before and I had no idea that my friend was secretly jealous and resentful of me. It was really hurtful when I found out. I felt so stupid and lied to. The betrayal of a false friend indeed.

So please, Natalies of the world, go to therapy to deal with your self-esteem, entitlement and jealousy issues, and don’t ever pretend to be someone's friend — it’s not nice or needed, it’s actually incredibly mean and selfish.

Calloway seems like a mental illness train wreck that is performing for the public and will not end well.

Beach is still attempting to use her old friend as a step stool though, and that is sad.

Who is funding Calloway's lifestyle? Where are her parents?
