BCC HS principal change

Dr. Jones promoted to be the next Director of Learning, Achievement and Administration for the Office of School Support and Improvement. New Acting Principal of B-CC = Dr. Shelton Mooney who is a principal intern in MCPS. Per letter from central, will be mentored by retired admin Dr Frank Stetson. Thoughts?

Why the hell would they make this change the second week of school????

This is extremely abrupt. This sounds like removal, not a normal promotion.

She seemed like such a great principal. My kid just started there and we never saw this coming.

Ms. Serino at Westland is a superb principal. Dr. Jones was just, well, meh at best. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new principal is.

you can't compare a MS and HS principal.

He just started as principal intern at Wheaton. He didn't get much interning before this promotion.

Have had kids at both schools and was much less impressed with Serino. Jones has been a nonentity for our kid's experience at BCC.

This former MS/HS teacher with children at Westland/BCC agrees with the assessment above. Serino = strong; Jones = not strong, in my opinion. See prior threads about poor staff morale at BCC HS. Not certain assessments of Jones matter much anymore, however. Curious to see who's coming in.

I believe he will still be interning. Correct? It could be a while before they appoint a new permanent Principal.

PP here: now that I've read the letter, I'm really bothered by this as a BCC parent. Why this change now, during the second week of school? Why are we getting a "principal intern" plus a mentor, which sounds like a slapdash solution? Why no principal search process until next spring -- and what does that mean for hiring a permanent principal?

Serino seems so meh.. I was spoiled by the RCF principal perhaps.

This is a removal.
New building addition, principal in charge of construction.

Why not have a current AP be acting Principal? Is that not a common thing to do? It seems odd to have both the intern and his supervisor be from outside the school community.
