BCC HS principal change

No. They'll post the position in the spring. Which is when the best principal candidates will be job-hunting.

Well, that also means the principals who want it and are in the county will spend their time from now until spring networking and trying to impress. Could be an interesting winter...

How is the interim doing? If he's doing well (and wants the position), I would think they'd give him the job.

Any updates on this? Are people pleased with Dr. Mooney? I know he was a principal somewhere else before coming to MCPS, so he's more experienced than a typical MCPS principal intern. Wonder if he'd like to stay on -- anyone have any info?

Wow, is no one on here from BCC? Is this guy keeping the lowest profile ever?

I posted when this thread was first started and was pretty skeptical - the way MCPS handled this seemed fishy to me as a parent. But I have to say, I've been impressed with Mooney so far. I happened to meet him on the open house day. (I went in for another reason and the office mentioned he was spending the day meeting with parents. Lo and behold I was the only one there at the time.)

I had no contact with his predecessor, but in person Mooney seemed great and very friendly and accessible. Very happy to fix a minor technical issue for me that was below his pay grade and said how much he enjoyed having a day when he just got to talk to parents and kids rather than go to meetings. Sure, that's a line but it was delivered in a genuine enough fashion that I was impressed. Since then he's seemed really responsive as incidents have arisen at the school.

I’m very disappointed in the way he has handled the swastika incident. Very little transparency or public communication. Poorly advertised “community” event for which there was no “community outreach” and thus almost no participation and which seemed to be organized by students, not the principal. Parents are asking questions about response and all he can say is “there a working group.” Says it was wrong, but lack of action belies words, IMO.

Is bcc doing the no place for hate program that Churchill and Whitman are doing with the ADL?

He sent an email right away on the swastika so I don’t know how you can call that “very little” communication or transparency.

It's just one of many swastika incidents at wealthy segregated moco school

Sounds like he’s doing a good job

The only way Superintendent/BOE could do this and be acting in the best interests of the students is if the principal has done something so egregious that it merits immediate removal.

So, which is it, was she removed? Or does BOE literally not give a damn about BCC students, faculty, and staff?

People were saying same old thing even 5 years ago? Oy

Why are we getting a "principal intern" plus a mentor, which sounds like a slapdash solution? Why no principal search process until next spring -- and what does that mean for hiring a permanent principal?

I think we can chalk up the abysmal timing on this to the chaos of the previous year. Look at the principal turnover this past year - sky high. Add to this the superintendency changes and you have a situation where the BCC leadership issue wasn't addressed in a timely manner.

I’m confused. Why was this topic bumped up from 2019? Did the principal from BCC get removed or are parents calling for his removal?

Dr SM is there!
