Redshirting consequences at Lafayette

No, it’s arbitrary, evidenced by the fact that every school district picks arbitrary dates.

This is the crazy that privates weed out. When a policy isn’t the best for the students, the policies change.

Sorry… It’s “crazy” for someone to say the DCPS should enforce its own guidelines? And what does that have to do with private school? I hope you’re a bot stealing a previous post without understanding the meaning.

It’s crazy to blindly follow guidelines that are not in the best interest of students. Private schools teach critical thinking.

They don’t teach critical thinking. It’s a buzz word to make them sound better. Many of the academics are behind public’s. It’s not in kids interests to be held back and not get support for a critical year for their special needs.

Critical thinking means actually learning about neurology before spewing off about special needs.

Lol. typical private school move to claim that the thing you demand for your own child is self-evidently in the interests of all children overall and must become policy. That sure is some critical thinking.

Go to Columbia Teacher’s college. Ask them about the best evidence-based curriculum and the right ages for them.

For the DCPS parents here who support the K enrollment policies and want to see them better enforced, have you found a productive way outside DCUM to voice your concerns?

Of course they tried, but people quickly realized how crazy they are. As soon they are bringing up how much other kids are suffering from redshirted boys because of their potential to be better in school and life than their own kids. Not only school admins are baffled that this person wants to discuss the enrollment of someone else’s kids, but also other parents will quickly socially isolate her and her kids.

So trolling internet forums is all she has left, she’s been doing it for years, it’s like therapy for her.

It’s only one crazy parent and she’s not even in DCPS. Her story changes depending on the forum she’s posting on.

Honestly it’s just a paranoid idiot at this point.

Back to the AP thing (or teachers) it’s not the duty of the school to announce these things until they’re ready. So even if they already do have a new AP it will be shared on their timeline not based on “inquiring minds want to know.”

I think you’re responding to me, and I was just commenting that communication about this type of stuff was much better at our EOTP DCPS, and I appreciated being in the loop about staffing changes. Lafayette communication was weird under Dr. B and it’s weird under the new principal. I don’t feel entitled to this information, but it’s odd to read about it on here before getting the official communication.

I’m new to the post. Redshirting should be illegal. Kids are 10 in my child’s 3rd grade class while some are 8.

Well, it’s not. How’s that for the law?

Yeah given that they put Lucy Caulkins on a pedestal for 20 years while she shelled out a horrible reading curriculum that didn’t actually teach kids to read. I think I’ll pass on Teacher’s College curriculum for the time being. And Caulkins was “evidence-based” as well. But it is a private school so according to you it’s superior.

I don't understand. The K enrollment policies ARE enforced in DCPS. That's the whole point -- everyone follows the rules except for a small group of families at a small number of schools, and now even they are being forced to follow the rules, which is why they are tantrumming.

I've had kids in DCPS for 6 years and have only encountered two kids who were old for their grade. Both were special circumstances (IEPs in both cases). Otherwise, I simply do not encounter redshirting in DCPS. One of my kids has an August birthday and is rarely even the youngest kid in her class.

So you’ll stick with random uninformed bureaucrat?
