Thompson Creek Windows ruined my Weekend

Anonymous
Saturday morning wife had a guy come to quote on Windows. Polite young salesmen shows up. For 90 minute quote. Mind you 12 normal size windows and one slider all white vinyl replacements.

The pitch would not stop. Videos, props, stories, stories be a model home, refer neighbors for a discount, financing, downpayment guy wanted check and a laptop and iPad to sign contract and all types of marketing videos.. Even a heat lamp to show heat through window. Plus a big model window he opened and closed.

Then the price $23,000 dollars and all types of time share deals to lower price to a still crazy 18k. Finally, I had enough I say leave a quote give us 48 hours to decide. He was like no the price expires when I walk out door gotta work with me now to get price. I get upset say no way I am not talking no more leave room and don't come back and he keeps negotiating with wife 30 minutes to get check. Which he did not

My wife pissed at me as rude. It was first quote.

Turns out From Glassdoor and Indeed reviews the salesmen get paid $130,000 to $200,000 a year 100 percent commission and are trained in higher pressure sales. The FTC has an investigation about lies salesmen tells about product just to sell. 50 year warranty is a joke as Angie's list and other sites say they don't often honor it. The windows are ok but the huge sales pitch and mark up turns me off.

If they want to sell an overpriced product fine. But this is outrageous. Guy also bulkedquote did not break out cost by window and would not provide a written estimate without a 10 percent deposit that under Maryland law we can get back. But that required me going through more sales pitches to be refunded.

Avoid if you want to keep you money and sanity. Anyone else deal with them?

Shady shady shady. This is why all states have the in-home sales law that lets you back out of any contract signed in your home within 3 days of signing.

Find a reputable local place with a showroom and work with that. Pick a manufacturer, then to go their website to find a list of authorized dealers in the area.

I wish I had known that years ago when my roommate signed us up for ADT and I ended up being on the hook for payments.

Yes, they should be banned because some vulnerable people end up signing their contracts. I had someone like this talk my ear off a few years ago (don't remember if it was that company or another), and to get him to leave I agreed to an appointment for an inspection and quote. As soon as he left, I called to cancel the appointment. If he had insisted on making the sale right there and then, I would have shut the door in his face, because that would have been too pushy for me.

Tell your wife they are scammers and you can get the same quality for less at "real" businesses. And tell her never to fall for that kind of thing!!!

I was warned away from Thompson Creek, Long Fence etc by friends so I did not even bother with them when we needed work done. I used Unicorp for my windows and it was hassle-free from start to finish.

Ugh. This was like when I tried to get a quote from Maggio Roofing. Ugh ugh ugh. Rude, loud salesman. Taking my ear off about solar panels. Would not stop. Finally went up and came back and said “you don’t have a good roof for solar panels”. I’m like, right. I asked for a quote for a new roof. I almost exploded through the roof. He sent over a big presentation for the quote, which was outrageous. We live on cap hill and people are always recommending Maggio and I don’t understand why - paying 3 x what I paid and you are paying the sales commissions!!!

I’ve been there too. And yes wife got annoyed with me. No on I warn her about sales reps in advance. Sales people like Thompson creek windows offer no benefit to society.

OP - wife still mad was rude. Did a little research and top sales reps at Thompson earn well over $200k. Also commission is set up so that sky high price they give you let's say 30k and after fighting they do 20k. They have commission tables where commission keeps rising is sucker pays full price. So let's say you pay full price the commission between 20k and 30k is 50 percent then something like 10 -20 percent under 20k. So they will really push for higher price. On hot leads where you call for quote they want to close 30 percent of time.

The other thing the price quote as today only is highesr price as they will keep calling with lower prices.

A 30k window commission can be 7-8k!!!

Another thing Thompson Creek makes own windows but don't guaranteed all windows made bt them. A few customers actually found stickers from other companies underneath of doors and windows that sell for hundreds less. Look at ad below. And none of installers work for Thompson often same guys you see at Home Depot or Lowes.

You tell them to measure, give you a price and get out.

How come your DW wasn’t upset?

Why do people expect anything different from canvassing, marketing heavy companies.

Same thing with Empire carpet.

Which window company is better?
Anonymous
Yup. We did Pella (we did wood clad not vinyl). . Asked them to come out ourselves. Quote for the few windows we wanted. No hard sell. Lifetime guarantee and install guarantee. Price broken out per window and they never discontinue lines so we can continue to replace a couple at a time.
