Homeless guy murdered construction worker on bridge in DC

On the Frederick Douglass bridge. No known motive meaning he’s a mental case

Get rid of mental health facilities and you get murders.

Zero context here, OP. No known motive could also mean possible self defense, but still investigating. Homeless people are often victims too. Maybe not, but who knows based on your thin post?

If you want to start a dialog on mental health or on the homeless crisis, do that. We need it.

I was followed aggressively by homeless guy at Union station. Arlington woman nursery by homeless guy. We got a problem.

Very sad. I passed him on my way out of DC before they closed the outbound lane. They victim was a 62 year old man, likely involved with the bridge construction.

Interestingly, the construction work was continuing, makes me wonder if they knew what happened - or if this is the world we live in now.

Call 311 any time you see an erratic or passed out homeless person. Eventually our politicians will move to involuntary treatment. If you just step over them or hand them sandwiches,, you are contributing to their misery and the ongoing murder toll. They are clearly unhappy individuals, and regular society needs protection from their erratic, hallucinatory behavior.

311--DC Non-Emergency hotline. If they are threatening or acting erratic say that, and if they are passed out say they need a wellness check - for you know, they could be ODing or dead.

Also, don't give money to panhandlers. Donate to SOME if you feel the need to support them.

I never used to be like this, but I give a WIDE berth to homeless/drugged-out looking people on the sidewalk now. I do not let them get within arms distance of me or my kid.

The man was working as an inspector on the bridge construction project and was randomly attacked and stabbed repeatedly in the middle of the day. He tried to run away, fell several times and was punched and stabbed. It was horrifying. Here is the latest article.

This Ammons guys was released twice before in DC with charges dismissed for threatening behavior. He said he came to DC to prepare for the end of the world. DC attracts delusional people - why is there no pipeline to mental hospitals when they exhibit startling and hostile behaviors?
Do we need to call the Council and demand they look at this??
I always call the police when I see erratic behavior, but I sympathize for them too. Takes a lot of their time and they are not meant to be social workers. We need mental health intervention. How many more must die?

At least he used a knife and not a gun. That should at least count for something. Maybe manslaughter rather than murder, since it’s doubtful he meant to kill him since he only stabbed him, rather than shot him.

To me, using a gun says you definitely want someone to die, whereas using a knife, it’s more of a gray area. Like you want to hurt them, but maybe not kill them, because knives aren’t generally deadly.

That is utter garbage. You can have intent to kill with a knife, particularly if you don't have access to a gun.
Don't be dumb. It's clear he meant to kill.

We are already pleading down? The only issue here is he should go straight to an asylum for treatment, which wont happen. His last two crimes were pled down, which is why he was roaming the streets with a knife.
