Call 311 any time you see an erratic or passed out homeless person. Eventually our politicians will move to involuntary treatment. If you just step over them or hand them sandwiches,, you are contributing to their misery and the ongoing murder toll. They are clearly unhappy individuals, and regular society needs protection from their erratic, hallucinatory behavior. 311--DC Non-Emergency hotline. If they are threatening or acting erratic say that, and if they are passed out say they need a wellness check - for you know, they could be ODing or dead.
Also, don't give money to panhandlers. Donate to SOME if you feel the need to support them. I never used to be like this, but I give a WIDE berth to homeless/drugged-out looking people on the sidewalk now. I do not let them get within arms distance of me or my kid.
This Ammons guys was released twice before in DC with charges dismissed for threatening behavior. He said he came to DC to prepare for the end of the world. DC attracts delusional people - why is there no pipeline to mental hospitals when they exhibit startling and hostile behaviors? Do we need to call the Council and demand they look at this?? I always call the police when I see erratic behavior, but I sympathize for them too. Takes a lot of their time and they are not meant to be social workers. We need mental health intervention. How many more must die?
