Anyone else worry about their kids future because of global warming?

Anonymous
I have two wonderful girls - one three and one five. We are thinking about having a third but holding off with that decision right now. Every now and then I get this sick feeling worrying about what their Ives will be like in the future with global warming. I have family in the Middle East and already the temperatures are soaring. I worry about the future of my nephews and nieces as well. Don’t get me wrong. I’m usually a happy person and generally will go about my day not thinking about the distant future. But lately I can’t help but think about it and am feeling down. I feel like we have very little time to reverse the effects of global warning and I doubt there is political will to do anything about it. Not sure why I’m posting here but my husband seems to be a more optimistic person or at least the type who thinks that we shouldn’t worry about things that are outside our control.

OP, between global warming and the political climate, I am terrified for my kids. I have two under four. My husband is feeling pretty pessimistic as well.

Yes. I used to think the serious problems of climate change would come in another three or four generations. Now I wonder whether my young teen will see the end of human existence as we know it.

Anyone who is middle class by dcum standards will be fine. They will be happy and healthy.

But it will be a sad world. There will be famines and wars and epidemics in many places.

There will be less skiing, less snorkeling, less swimming in natural bodies of water. Sports will be played inside.

Yes, but its more productive to do something about it. You'll feel a lot better.
Citizens Climate Lobby and Mom's Clean Air Force are two good organizations that can use volunteers.

It’s way more than 100 years away.

If you really care, don’t have more kids:

I really don’t understand why it’s a trend now to have three+ kids.

Yes,but then my parents worried in the 60’s when we were toddlers too. However, we don’t seem to have the same environmental urgency we had then.

Doubtful. Even the wealthy can’t avoid air and water pollution and weather catastrophes. The technology for a fully self-sufficient biodome isn’t there yet.

LOL heck no, that is a stupid fear.

You are being sarcastic, right?

Eh yeah but people in the 60s-80s were sure world would end in nuclear war.

I expect population to plummet in generation as India and China have fewer kids.

Then we’ll seed the atmosphere with sulfur dioxide to simulate volcano and cool things down. Maybe we can figure out in orbit solar arrays to cool planet and generate power, though that is beyond even Elon Musk hype.

Air and water are cleaner than 40 years ago.

Absolutely 100%. I have to two small girls like OP and I think about what he/she wrote DAILY. I am terrified. It will be a sad sad horrible future for them no matter what. Humanity will drive itself into extinction, we just aren't intelligent enough to realize we need the planet to exist and money, growth and economics or whatever else is being used as an excuse to perpetuate this cycle is simply nothing in comparison to the fact that we NEED THE PLANET and WE ARE KILLING IT. depressing sooooooo depressing
