I recently cut back my calories to 1400 per day, and I am drained.
I know that I can up them and lose weight must more slowly but I hate dieting in the first place and this way it’s over relatively quickly. Anyone have some tips to deal with the inevitable fatigue? I am so drained by the end of the day, why does losing fat hurt so much! Im trying to lose about 15 lbs. |
| Are you cutting back carbs? You may have low blood sugar? Drink more water, take magnesium or electrolytes if you are sweating a lot. Often lighter food intake boosts energy. Maybe this is a transition period. |

what does your 1400 calories consist of? I find that food quality matters when I diet. |
The above is correct. Also, based on my experience, the first week is usually the hardest and I always expect the headache to kick in because I feel hungry from eating less food. However, there are ways to make yourself feeling fuller longer like: increasing your water intake, lower your simple carbs, increase protein and complex carbs. Don't eat sugary food in the morning, I find that the simple hard boiled eggs in the AM keeps me feel fuller longer than eating bread/pancake/ waffles. |
I was eating 1800 and weigh 148. I figured 1400 wouldn’t be too much of a deficit. My macros are 115 grams protein, 150 carbs, 30 fiber, and 60 fat - basically like the zone diet. I’ll keep chugging away and hopefully it gets better! |
| How recently did you make this cut? Your body may just need time to adjust. |

I just recently started counting macros - sorry meant to say my max fat is 60 and carbs are 150 - so if i have a heavy carb day I go lighter on fat and vice versa. I used to eat mostly lowish carb high fat and wasn’t making much progress due to the lack of protein (even with a deficit). Bumping up the protein has really helped in quickly shedding a few lbs of water weight. I’ll try the Gatorade zero - thanks for the tip! |

| I go through that period of adjustment with headaches, fatigue, etc., but that is when I'm getting into ketosis and eating 30-35 net carbs/day. I shouldn't think you'd experience those symptoms as high as 150. Sleep, lots of water, electrolytes (without sugar). |

Are you cutting out an entire group of food (I.e., sugar, carbs, etc) suddenly?
I posted a response in the Noom thread and this diet has me eating 1400 calories, a little more if I exercise. I haven’t been hungry at all and I was previously eating closer to 1900 calories per day. I think it has to do with the fact that the diet doesn’t have me cutting out an entire “group” making my body essentially quit something cold turkey. The diet is based on trying to eat more foods that have a low caloric density—fruits and veggies of course, but also whole grains, which are really satisfying to me and keep me full. Rice, potatoes, egg whites, they’re all in the best category. I’ve been doing well without headaches or hunger pangs. |
