Reproductive endocrinologist recommendations?

Anonymous
I'm 39 and we've been trying for 5 months to have #2 (charting, OPK's, etc...). I think it's time to make an appointment with an RE. Any recommendations for good RE's in NOVA or DC?

Go to the TTC forum here and you will find lots of recommendations. I go to Shady Grove (offices in MD, VA, and DC) but there's also Dominion Fertility and others.

OP here -
I searched on "reproductive endocrinologist" in the TTC forum before I posted and nothing really came up -- just people saying "you should go see an RE" etc..., but no real recommendations of doctors names. Plus the TTC forum isn't as well trafficked and I wanted to hear from people who were successful with their REs, like 21:27 above. That's why I posted here.

The search engine is really crappy- you'll need to read the title of the posts to get an idea- I have 9and others) posted about the search engine- maybt it'll be upgraded in 2010 but dont think this topic hasnt been discussed extensively and often- sorry- some digging but you'll get recommendations (esp. based on where you live- the closer the better since there is a lot of monitoring- there is quite a pick of places that ,make it convenient so basically- MD., DC or VA)

I liked Dr. Widra as well, I was 43 when I saw him and not sure how far I was willing to go to have #2. He was straightforward and smart, but did not push too aggressively and had a great manner. After a year of no luck (prior to seeing him), we got lucky after the HSG and DD #2 is 17 months. Good luck to you.

The most important thing is to choose a Board Certified RE and one that is close to home....if you need treatment you'll be going A LOT.

We had a great experience at Dominion Fertility. You'll read a lot of posts from people who don't like one of the doctors there, DiMatina on the TTC Board, but I found his frankness and no-nonsense approach helpful. He doesn't pull any punches.

if you're looking for a smaller practice, i cannot say enough about dr. sacks at columbia fertility. i was pregnant one cycle after i started seeing him. i almost lost my son, too ... i was bleeding heavily right after i found out i was pregnant and was cramping and passing clots (sorry for the TMI)...i think most docs would have just said "sorry about your miscarriage", but he kept checking my beta levels which were doubling appropriately, but my progesterone was terribly low, so he put me on massive doses of progesterone. he saved my son's life, no doubt about it.

I can't rave enough about Dr. Preston Sacks. Really upbeat and personable and he has worked wonders for me and many of my friends. He's at Columbia Fertility Associates in DC.

Another vote for Dr Sacks -- he is great technically and also very warm.

My OB also recommended Dr. Widra and there were lots of good reviews of him on the TTC forum so I was going to go see him but it turned out I got pregnant a few weeks before my appt with him! Anyway, Dr. Widra is where I would go if I were you.

Another vote for Dr. Sacks. Unlike my OB, he took my repeated miscarriages seriously and ran a number of tests that identified a clotting problem. Two months later I was pregnant thanks to Clomid and I carried the pregnancy to term due to Lovenox (an anticoagulant).

Believe me, there are MANY threads on this subject on the TTC board if you look. (Most people don't write out "reproductive endocrinologist" when they post, so that's not a good search term, and the search engine stinks anyway.)

You're getting some good recs here, but do still visit the TTC board - many women over there are VERY educated on fertility issues and have thoroughly researched the REs in the area, especially with regard to specific fertility issues (age, certain medical conditions, etc.). And if it comes down to Shady Grove v. Dominion for you, there are many threads on that particular issue.

Now to answer your question, I like Dr. Paulette Browne at SG Fair Oaks.
