Reproductive endocrinologist recommendations?

I saw Dr. Gordon at Dominion Fertility, and loved him and his practice. He was patient with my reticence to try IVF. After 6 IUI cycles, we conceived my now 2-year-old son. With my attempts at #2, I changed practices and saw Dr. Chang in Shady Grove Rockville (I am now pregnant from my first IVF cycle). My main reason for switching was location. Since the birth of my son, we moved to MD. With fertility treatments, you often need to make multiple visits to the RE's office early in the morning. With my son in the picture, I could not fathom waking up at 5:30AM to get to a 7AM appt in VA. So, yes, the RE is extremely important in your decision-making. But please also consider location/convenience. Good luck!

Another vote for Dr. Sacks.

screw the dominion vs. shady grove debate ... columbia fertility and dr. sacks are where it's at.

Hi OP. Good luck with the baby project! Beyond just wanting results (that goes without saying), I recommend you think about what kind of experience you want. I got three consults (Dominion, SG, and Muasher Center) and in the end went with Dr. Muasher because I wanted a personalized experience and to see the same dr and set of nurses for every visit. I had an outstanding experience there as far as the expertise and care, and I know have a bouncing baby boy.

We had a great experience at Dominion Fertility. You'll read a lot of posts from people who don't like one of the doctors there, DiMatina on the TTC Board, but I found his frankness and no-nonsense approach helpful. He doesn't pull any punches.

I agree with this. I went to Dr. DiMatina at Dominion Fertility and while I can see how some people may be turned off by him, I personally loved his approach and how direct he was. I have both endomentriosis and PCOS, he was very frank in telling me how hard a journey we would have in trying to get me pregnant, and then made sure to tell me I needed to take care of my pregnancy with a high risk OB/GYN. It took about 5 months of seeing him/medications/treatments (after 9 months of trying unsuccessfully with the help of normal OB) and now we have a 16 month DD.

Agree with others, you really need to keep digging through the other board - there is a ton there once you find it.

You really need to decide what qualities you like in a doctor as you'll spend a lot of time with the practice you choose. There are several fantastic REs in this area, so getting beyond that is a matter of preference (or insurance). Have you asked your OB for recommendations? Mine gave me three and suggested to me how I might "click" or not with each based on what she knew about my personality.

In the end, it was down to Shady Grove and Dominion. I went with Dominion/Dr. Gordon because I like a practice that's not as factory-like (in no way saying SG is bad, just much bigger) and a doctor that will be a hand holder - my preferred style.

We saw Dr. Widra and were happy. It worked well for us because he was at Georgetown (now downtown I believe) for the weekly (sometimes daily) monitoring stage of things during IVF. I didn't mind that Shady Grove was a big practice and I had to go to Rockville for the procedures (only a few times), but I can see some people not liking that.

Loved the docs at GIVF, Dr. Lincoln and Dr. Udoff specifically, and the nurses were outstanding.

A second for Dr. Browne @ Shady Grove. Straight forward, goal oriented and patient. I saw her at the Annandale office before she moved over to Fair Oaks. I like the staff at both offices.

Our twin girls are 7 months.

Some don't like his personality, but Dr. DiMattina at Dominion Fertility gets the job done. He's no nonsense. If you want to bond with your RE, he may not be the man. But if you want to get in and out and on with your life, he (and his partner, Dr. Gordon) are great choices. Also, and you may know this, location isn't what you should base your choice on, but it is something to take into consideration. It's very helpful to be close - because it helps cut down on the time you devote to the process (and thus, sometimes, the amount of energy spent thinking about it). Best of luck!

OP Here --
Thanks to all who wrote (and thanks for the tips on searching better!). I called my OB today for a recommendation and they recommended Shady Grove. I called and have an appointment with Dr. Widra in 2 weeks.

Thanks again!

I love Dr. Gordon for his help with #1, and now I have #2 on the way conceived with no help.

Another vote for Dr. Widra. I just got pregnant with one through an IVF cycle. The Washingtonian publishes a list of the best doctors in the area, including fertility specialists.
