DOJ argues that migrant children should not receive toothbrushes or soap

Let’s hope DOJ lawyer SArah Fabian doesn’t have kids. If she treats her kids the way she wants to treat migrant children, we will be calling children’s protective services. Brought to you by the “family values” GOP.

Justice Department lawyer suggested at a recent hearing that a toothbrush and soap were not necessarily required to fulfill sanitary conditions for detained migrant children laid out in a years-old agreement, The Associated Press reports.

According to the news agency, Sarah Fabian, a senior litigation counsel for the department, made the suggestion while discussing a 1997 settlement agreement that requires certain sanitary and safety standards be met for detained persons during a recent hearing at the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The word “migrant” is being used in place of “immigrant.” A migrant is a person who moves from one place to another within a country. My parents were migrants who came to California from Oklahoma and Texas in the early 1940s.

An immigrant is a person who moves from one country from another.

“Judge William Fletcher, the third panel member, said Gee found evidence that minors were kept overnight in crowded, chilly rooms, sleeping on concrete floors with aluminum-foil blankets with the lights kept on all night.”

One night? I think one night is acceptable. They went without soap, a toothbrush, a blanket how many nights while traveling to cross the border?

It does say "were kept overnight"

At this point think the US is overwhelmed. We need internationally administered fenced encampments as in Syria.

Judges differ with Trump administration on conditions for immigrant minors

It sounds like it was for a single night and of course the MSM is leaving that out.

“When pressed further by a judge about whether a toothbrush and soap should always be provided to detainees, Fabian reportedly said the items aren't necessarily required depending on the person's length of stay.“

So the deal is in an overnight processing or travel situation there may not be a place to brush teeth or wash or lay down and thus no toothbrushes or soap or blankets.

Of course the MSM is conveniently and purposely leaving that out.

You realize this is a feature of the Trump Administration. Overall immigration over the border is at all time lows, but Trump is purposefully using these kids and giving cronies the contracts with our tax dollars to mistreat them like this, all for the effect of making people on both sides outraged, but mostly to keep the wedge issue and his base stimulated.

The Border Patrol reports 440,000 apprehensions at the southwest border through May of 2019, already nearly equal to the 467,000 apprehensions in all of 2018.

The number of apprehensions per month jumped from 48,000 in January to more than 90,000 in March and April and 133,000 in May.

According to U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., roughly 23,000 families per week are crossing the border illegally.

For May, the Border Patrol reported 96,049 apprehensions of immigrants from family units or unaccompanied children at the southern border. Converted to a weekly average (with 4.43 weeks in a 31-day month), that’s 21,681 people per week from a family unit.

If we look at all immigrants apprehended in May at the southern border -- families, adults and unaccompanied children -- the weekly average is about 30,000.

That’s more than three times the rate from a year earlier. In May 2018, an average of 9,000 migrants per week were apprehended at the southern border.

If we look at all apprehensions at the southern border, the number is well over what Johnson cited. And his general point about the increasing number of apprehensions at the border is correct.

We rate this claim True.

Where are you getting the information that border crossings are at an all time low?

When I see crazy threads like this on DCUM that no doubt provoke liberal outrage, I usually don't open them because I know the "legacy media" is spinning a story to intentionally make the Trump administration look bad.
Or, the OP of the thread is spinning the story.

Looks like that is what happened. Again.

This story is all over the MSM. But the overnight detail omitted.

Rawrrrr Drumpf won’t let children brush their teeth and he won’t even give them a blanket!!!

Hmmm.....
No, they don't. Not for all flights. Only for international flights. And, not all international flights.
In fact, I have flown to Australia. They didn't give me a toothbrush. Blankets were available if we wanted them.
And, we actually pay for those things when we purchase our ticket.

Perhaps it's time to admit there's a crisis at the border?

And Congressional Democrats will finally address it?

I know how hard you are trying to make them seem not human but many of us value human beings. Your pedantic labeling is fruitless.
