So the same sex marriage of a teacher at a Jesuit HS becomes public. The archdiocese tells the high school not to renew teacher's contract. The school says no, this teacher is a long time staff member and valued part of the community. So the archdiocese severs ties with the school. I side with the school. What about you? |

Jesuits, continuing their centuries-long tradition of poking the church in the eye.
Good for them! |
| The guy needs to join the Episcopal Church, where he’ll be welcomed with open arms! Here in America, you still get to choose your religion. |
|
And nothing of value was lost.
This seems like a gain for the school. |
| I side with the Church. If you can't represent your company with honesty, find another company. There are a million schools where a person can teach. No Chevy dealer is going to have any credibility if he drives a Lexus. The President of a country shouldn't be a citizen of a different country. Talk the talk? Then walk the walk. |
You'd have been awesome during Jim Crow. |
Or he can stay Catholic and keep helping with the fight to drag the Church into the 21st c. Obviously, he has good allies in the Jesuits. |
|
I side with the school.
If it was a religion teacher, I'd side with the archdiocese. But plenty of heterosexual teachers at Catholic school don't follow all the church teachings, unfortunately. Are we going to fire all the divorced teachers, too? OTOH, school should not affirm or encourage the marriage. It's just a personal choice by a teacher and not for the school to comment on unless the teacher makes an issue of it. |
| As a Catholic, I would be much happier if all Catholics were like the Jesuits. |
Agreed and fire all the fat teachers for gluttony. |
| Team school . |
| The best part of American magazine is the comments section... it’s craxy town. |
| Church |
This! |

The Archdiocese did the right thing. Those indulging in unnatural and perverted acts have no place in Catholic schools. Every archdiocese should do this.
