2018-19 Cards will work until Oct 1, 2019. Students and parents can pick up new cards at these locations over the summer, or (supposedly) at their schools in August/Sept. You can go to any location, not necessarily the one in your Ward. Click on the Twitter link above for required documentation. | Thanks for posting. I put it on my calendar so I remember. |
| Can you also still go to the main office and get them at any time? Do all charters also offer them at the schools?? (I know our dcps was supposed to offer the service this past year. But, the office administrator didn't like doing them so it was 101 excuse as to why she couldn't do them in the office every week.) |
You need to call the KRF office to see if they will be distributed at the main office again. And yes, charters will have some in the fall. But all the schools strongly prefer you get them on one of these distribution days. Sometimes the KRF office doesn't send enough to each school, and it creates lots of headaches for the school-based admin staff. Last year some schools didn't get enough to meet demand until 2-3 weeks past the Oct 1 date and students had to pay. |
| Does anyone know if DC kids enrolled in MD privates are eligible? |
I’d be surprised if they work outside the DC line. |
Must be a DC resident in a dc school (public or private). private school families must show proof of enrollment at a DC school. |
They work out to the Metro stations that are in DC or right on the border and served by DC bus routes- including Silver Spring/Friendship Heights/Rosslyn/Capitol Heights. |
No, both the kid's residence and the school have to located in DC. To get the private school card, you have to show proof of identity, residence, and you have to show proof of enrollment at a DC school. Private school proof can be: --Report card from the most recent school year ? School acceptance letter ? Invoice or receipt of tuition payment |
You can’t cross the DC line. My kid tried (to visit a friend) and the card wouldn’t let him out of the Metro at a Maryland station. |
| Sheesh. Can’t they just reactivate the existing card? Everything is a freaking process. WTH? |
Because it would also reactivate graduating seniors cards or cards held by people who left A DC school since last fall? Your kid gets free transit for a year. Taking an hour to swap our last year’s card for this year’s card doesn’t seem like too much to ask. |
You can’t cross the DC line by more than one stop I believe. For instance, the closest metro for my DC kid is Silver Spring. |
| No ward 4 or ward 1 locations? |
