2019-20 Kids Ride Free Smartrip Distribution / Locations and Dates

They had to do this.

Otherwise, there'd be no way to prevent someone from trading in a 2019 graduate's card for a new one.

Every smartrip card has an ID number. Why couldn’t they just deactivate the cards for kids who graduated?

Good! I hope it's an easy process at school unlike DC One.

I hope the schools come up with an orderly process to distribute.

Are you entitled PP who's complaining that the system wasn't automatic?

Apparently the professional public servants at DDOT, OSSE, DCPS, DCPCSB, and Metro were a few steps ahead of you.

By the way, given all the angst over residency fraud, last minute enrollments, and waitlist movement, I'll be shocked if there aren't any distribution issues.

Besides, the current cards are good through September. It's not like there was any rush to begin with. Sheez.

Jeez, overreact much? No, I'm not that poster. I'm just thinking about the poor front office staff at most schools who have a million other things to do and the beginning of the year rush. I agree it is more secure, I just think they load a lot onto schools office staff.

There's no need to complain about everything. You're not the only tax-paying resident. And I doubt you're a transportation expert.

There are much bigger problems in public education.

“Graduated”? Hahahahaha. They need to tie these things to residency and standard attendance.

Seriously, the current cards are so easy to abuse. They should be a different color than the regular metro cards. So long as you don’t flash the star side, there is no way to tell that it is a student card.

Of course ZERO about the private school kids! WTF?

At bottom of page it says parents can get cards for students in private school or who are home-schooled at a DCOneCard center.

Maybe her private school kid has better reading skills.

You mean this part:

Required Documentation
To receive a replacement School Year 2018-2019 KRF SmarTrip card at a DC One Card Center, students will need to bring one of the following as proof of eligibility:

Current DC One Card, or
Student ID/USI number
Private and home-schooled students should bring proof of identity, proof of DC residency, and proof of school enrollment/OSSE approval for home-schooling.

Bolded the relevant part for snotty posters. I called them. They said they haven't decided about private school kid distribution yet for 2019-2020. In addition disregard the handout times for the Deanwood and Judiciary Square DC Card Centers since those haven't been decided yet either.

Why would they be?

I'm the one who asked. DC could use it for transit from our home to our DC bus stop/pickup. I do pay taxes and all, but can understand if it's not possible.

I don't think so. The rules are that the kid be a DC resident enrolled in a school located in DC.

Thanks for making that call and posting, PP. Saves me having to do it. The KRF webpages are neither clear nor complete but I guess if they haven’t actually decided how they are going to do this, that makes sense.

Our private school sent us information about it this week. No indication that this year is any different from last year.

The flyer I have clearly says the card of for 2019-2020 and also lists the documents required for private and home schooled students, and it lists the distribution dates for this summer.

Your flyer is out of date. Check the web site.
