They need to draw the KAA boundaries in a way that makes sense and doesn't disrupt the boundaries for all the other schools in the area, and call it a day.

You can get a lot closer and diminish the number of splits coming out of the MS, which would benefit the students at those MS. It so happens that the kids who are attending Carson would be a quick drive over to the new HS. The biggest issue would be the number of students pulled from Westfield.

I think it's clear they should redo the MS boundaries to align with the new HS boundaries. It would be really simple if they stopped the AAP transfers.

Once they are done with that, it should look something like:

Carson- KAA and either SL or Oakton
Franklin- Westfield and Oakton
Hughes- SL
Rocky Run- Chantilly
Stone- Westfield
Liberty- Centreville

It’s already been pointed out the Stone and Westfield capacities don’t align. Why do you morons keep pretending to have easy solutions when you don’t?

Because most posters don’t care if Westfield has a student population of 1600-1800, which Stone could easily sustain, but would leave Westfield with hundreds upon hundreds of empty seats. Maybe they can put that aviation academy people can’t stop talking about there.

There is a LOT of new construction in the Westfield area--some is almost walking distance. Development along Stonecroft and behind COSTCO, too. The Wegman area should also go to Westfield. I think they are Cub Run. If Stone cannot hold them, then, maybe Rocky Run.

There is a new townhouse development literally in the same block on Stonecroft. Not really "family" housing but there will likely be at least a few kids who come out of there.

The problem with all these new constructions is they aren't the kind of builds that families move into. They are in industrial areas, on busy roads, no green space, no playgrounds, not designed for families. So Westfield might fill up with kids from these developments, but it seems unlikely.

+1. Maybe put something desirable there that kids will actually be willing to schlep out there to attend.

trying to simplify the middle school feeders is not going to happen. the capacity and locations do not match up.

figure out what's least disruptive for the high schools with KAA and move the fewest kids possible

It's the same type of construction that is overwhelming the Coates area. Families are buying.

+1. If you did this, Westfield would only have about 1600 kids zoned. And MANY kids would try to transfer out to a school with more AP classes, etc. so who knows how many would actually show up on the first day of school.

Yeah, I don't know. Maybe. Some of the Westfield area developments are literally right in industrial parks, on very busy roads, nowhere for kids to play. Not familar enough with the Coates area to compare.

Have you driven through Reston lately--down Sunrise Valley?

Some of these places have green areas not visible from the road. Kind of in the middle. Not like a backyard, but there is play area.

If you put up decent sized TH’s (3 bedrooms, 3 levels, not small condos or the ones that are two levels stacked on top of each other) … the families will come. They’ll even come to the condos and stacked TH’s but mostly families with babies in that case.

<<<Are they in the section that is being proposed to move to Sangster? I don’t know why they would want kids out of Silverbrook. I feel like that was a rogue move by Thru.>>>

Sandy Anderson biggest political backer is in that neighborhood. It definitely raises some eyebrows. Why move an attendance island less than a mile away out of Sangster just to put a neighboring area into Sangster 👀 they want them out of silver brook so that they eventually go to LB and not South county.

At this point, it's more like a running gag.

Townhouses are also popular with single/divorced parents. Often with teenagers kids.
